Where do you cross the border in Texas for shopping?
In Cali, we cross into Tijuana, from San Diego. From there, we can go shopping. Where do you cross over in Texas? Also, if there is nice furniture you like, does anyone know if it is possible to ship or deliver to the states? I guess maybe one way to do it is to have a u-haul waiting at the border and transfer from their truck to u-haul. Does that sound possible??????? My reasoning for asking is that they have some beautiful hand carved furniture that is quite inexpensive, compared. Some of it makes its way into our flea markets, which are actually outdoor shopping centers, here. One lady from Cali wrote a book and stated she saw a hand carved dining set, that seated 8, with intricate hand painted designs, for $800. In the states, it would have cost $5,000. I purchased some beautiful mirrors (set of 3) for $95, which would have cost me a few hundred here. They were large, but small enough to handcarry across the border, which is what me and my family did.

Crossing Texas Border
The five main crossing points from Texas to Mexico are:
El Paso (Ciudad Juarez)
Del Rio (Ciudad Acuna)
Eagle Pass (Piedras Negras)
Laredo (Nuevo Laredo)....watch out...drug war going on
Brownsville (Heroica Matamoros)

Thanks for the info. Not including Laredo, because I understand that is a dangerous place, which of the other borders are safest to cross?

El Paso most likely, however, I've never crossed the border.

Safest to Cross
The two safest are the smaller cities of Del Rio and Eagle Pass.

Speaking of borders. From California to Texas, is there a border and are you stopped when crossing. I heard my pets have to have health certificates when I go into another state.
Anyone know?

I do not recall there being a border checkpoint from CA to AZ (although there is a checkpoint entering CA). I also don't recall any checkpoints from AZ entering NM. I read your other posts and you say you are moving with 8 dogs?! Wow, that's going to be an adventure! I did run into a Border Patrol checkpoint near El Paso but you shouldn't have any problems there either because Texas doesn't require a health certificate for your dogs.
Disclaimer: This is just my personal driving experience. YMMV
You will want to check with the proper authorities before making your move. [url]http://www.moving.org/brochure/pets.html#entry[url]

Very much agree. I grew up 100 miles from Del Rio/Cuidad Acuña, and have always felt relatively safe there. I didn't feel the same in Nuevo Laredo (yeah, it is really bad there right now) nor Juárez.
However, with Juárez being so much larger than "'Cuña", there will be more choices.

I have moved my dog from TX to NY to CA and the only time I needed health certs was when she flew from NY to CA - a requirements for flying. She was in a car from TX to NY and no certs were required.
I don't know about the southwest but I don't remember ever having to drive through a checkpoint up north or through the midwest & east coast. We've driven from CA to NV to UT to CO - no checkpoints that I recall stopping at. I don't recall any from CA to AZ either. These trips have been within the last 2 yrs.

Thanks for that info.
Its very expensive to do 8 dogs. $40.00 a piece and then rabbies shots for all.
