If the increased crime activity we have been reading about in Mexico is to scary, you could consider Puerto Rico where almost everyone speaks both Spanish and English. It is another beautiful location with a vibrant, lively economy, and many universities to choose from. My wife and family from Colorado spent a wonderful Xmas/NewYears holiday there last year. We found this a very friendly and vibrant place to visit. I would think that having some different cultural experiences in addition to the language training would make it far more valuable to you and your future employers. I would be surprised if you could not find some reasonably prices arrangements thru some of the universities for study with room and board arrangements.

I'm sure there are some helpful people in this forum who could recommend places for you to live and attend classes for an immersion course. It has a very active Puerto Rican contingent: http://www.city-data.com/forum/u-s-territories/

I would encourage you to consider this: Learn to Speak Spanish - Habla Hispana - Language School in Mexico En San Miguell de Allende.

San Miguel is an absolutely beautiful colonial mexican city, the university there has long taught immersion spanish classes for Americans.

You would come away with not just a better grasp of the language but a true experience of the culture. And it could easily cost less then staying somewhere in Texas for a similar length of time.

absolutely gorgeous city. it's where my fiance was raised. i spend last christmas there. san miguel de allende is not like mexico city. it's a much more quiet/quaint town. we walked everywhere without any danger. the language is 75/25 spanish/english in the city.

but getting back on topic, maybe just enroll in a college course or two. i know they can be expensive, but at a junior college maybe. it'll come out just the same as a tutor or rosetta stone would (my guess anyways).
