En Inglés:

Hi, I want to improve my Spanish. Does anyone know if there is anywhere in Texas I might be able to take an immersion course? I figure since the state has such a large hispanic population, there must be something like that. It would really help me if I decide to become an ESL teacher, and I really like working with ELL students.

It may be because of the fact that "immersion course" is undefined? What are your sources of reference for such a course?

For an immersion experience, you're probably best off looking to spend several months living in Mexico, preferably as a guest of a family that speaks only Spanish at home.

Other than that, try to find a conversational Spanish teacher that uses absolutely no English in the classroom, from the first class introduction onward. And the textbook used is of equal importance. It should offer clear and concise "English" pronunciations of Spanish words.

Another alternative is to listen to Spanish constantly when at home using one of the popular Spanish courses - ROSETTA STONE seems to be a very popular one.

I researched this a while back, and while I can't find links anymore, I did find immersion programs in Corpus and Houston a while back. But they were short programs. I'm assuming there are other programs in other cities. You could also move to Houston and enroll in a community college Spanish program and do some volunteer work in a Hispanic neighborhood - perhaps as a tutor or mentor. That would provide all the immersion you need. A lot of community colleges also offer non-credit Spanish classes for about 1/3 the cost of credit classes.

"Inmersión en ESpañol"?

I would encourage you to consider this: Learn to Speak Spanish - Habla Hispana - Language School in Mexico En San Miguell de Allende.

San Miguel is an absolutely beautiful colonial mexican city, the university there has long taught immersion spanish classes for Americans.

You would come away with not just a better grasp of the language but a true experience of the culture. And it could easily cost less then staying somewhere in Texas for a similar length of time.
