Default Texas - not so conservative after all...

Wyoming, Mississippi, Utah Rank as Most Conservative States

According to these Gallup Poll results, Texas is not so conservative after all. It did no even make the top 10 list of most conservative states.

In fact its down right middle of the road. Texas comes in at 20th place, with only 43% of its residents self identifying as conservative, 35% moderate and 18% Liberal.

That is how they thnik of themselves but now they vote and stand on issues is quite different really. The real change we saw in the last mid term election was a shift in state house politics across the nation.

Years ago I realized polls can indicate anything the person who is paying for the poll wants.

The last time I saw a believable poll was... hmmm, ummmm.... decades ago?

Many Texas residents think of themselves as moderate but are conservative. Those who think think they are conservative are ultra-conservative. Anyone left of conservative is a dreaded liberal. It's all self-applied labels.

Inside every conservative is a liberal should the circumstances dictate it. Of course conservatives find a way to blame liberals for all their problems. But when they lose their job and their family are hungry they're the first in line with their hands out to the Government. Of course the difference in their mind is they are victims who deserve help and the 'urban' poor are cheats who dont deserve it.

Really funny to chart out the convoluted thought processes of self proclaimed conservatives when their life hits some speed bumps.

Hmmm, lets see, am I going to go with a random public poll that I know little about when it comes to who they asked, or am I going to go with the facts about Texas Government. Seems like everytime I hear anything about Texas Government, thier laws, judicial decisions, etc., it's very conservative. That's fact, not some random poll like that. Lets hear some examples of the Texas Government being liberal, or not conservative.

Utah not number one? ooooo k.

The government of Texas has nothing to do with this poll. This poll measured how voters identify themselves.

What if the people they asked didn't really understand? I mean, there are lot's of people in this modern age who are confused about the meanings of the parties. WHAT IF, the majority of the people they asked don't even vote? The main point of this thread implies that Texas isn't that conservative. What does the facts say? The facts would be judicial decisions and laws, etc. However, I live in the Houston area and I can assure you, Houston is definitely very liberal. I say that because the mayor is openly lesbian. That's a fact, that tells me "Houston" is definitely more liberal, but Houston is not Texas. Houston is a very small portion of Texas, and far from a good representation of the majority of Texans. I say that because I'm allways hearing very conservative things about the Texas government. For example, they are fighting this certain textbook that says evolution is fact, or something of that nature. Texas is ALLWAYS standing up for conservative issues. George Bush, Pro-Life, etc. Come on man, are we really having this conversation?

However, it may be true that times are changing and it's becomeing more and more liberal. All I'm saying is that you don't go to polls about this stuff for facts. All you have to do is give examples of judicial decisions.
