The State-granted authority of Texas counties to tax personal vehicles is something I have known about for numerous years. It's a pure case of counties being given enough rope to hang themselves and Bailey County has been working on their personal noose for many years. Muleshoe's population has been decreasing since the 1970s and the County's response has been to raise real estate appraisal values (even when all other national properties were falling) and raise tax rates.

Many realtors in Clovis, NM and in Lubbock are familiar with Muleshoe penchant for high property taxes. I had a realtor just last month tell me he lost a sale when the young buyers learned of the taxes they would have to pay on their new home. It's not surprising that a former Muleshoe mayor sits on Governor Perry's Texas Tax Reform Commission which has done nothing to slow the growth of property taxes in Bailey County.

Also be careful if you ever drive through Muleshoe as they often use their police force as revenue gatherers.

OH NO, Rick Perry and his neanderthal Republicans will NEVER raise taxes. LOL

If he does this, I wish that texas voters would recall perry in the way that they did Gov Grayout Davis of Calif back in 2003.

When a politician runs on a platform on having a surplus and not raising taxes, he should expect for it to come back and bite him.
