Never heard about this before, but looks like Houston is not the only one looking to benefit from the Panama Canal expansion.

http://www.dallascityhall.com/forwar.../AgilePort.pdf

Articles are touting it as making Dallas an inland Port for Houston (whatever that means), but don't see how that benefits Houston.

looks like this will be huge for Dallas, but bad news for Houston.

How would that be bad news for Houston? Dallas and Houston work together a lot to transport material.

Loss of potential port of Houston jobs (not current ones)
Loss of potential revenue from warehouses.
Loss of potential infrastructure associated with shipping

I see it as major pluses for Dallas, major minuses for Houston

that plan is at least 6 years old if not older and it has already been crushed by souf dallas mafia like shakedown tactics and now the economy

it is not going to get done anytime soon and anything that does get done will not be near the scale expected

once again we can all use this as an example of why dallas and especially souf dallas sucks......because their politicians in souf dallas try and say that companies coming in and buying private land to do a business deal that creates jobs is actually "coming in and buying land cheap to exploit poor residents of the area and those residents deserve to have some stake in the project".......and that stake would come in the form of one of their poverty pimp plantation masters getting a cut of the deal for no investment

dallas the new detroit of the souf!

I just read that the company filed for bankruptcy, but the plan is not scraped.

Quote:
But Richard Allen, the project's main backer, vowed to steer it through bankruptcy and fulfill his vision of turning it into a thriving freight transportation center.
"The fundamentals of the park are still there," Allen said, citing the area's railroads, highways and available labor force. "We're very committed to the project."
The Dallas Logistics Hub occupies center stage in a broader inland port project, which local leaders have billed as southern Dallas County's most promising engine for economic development.
The inland port is designed to handle a flood of trade between Asia and the United States, receiving trainloads of containers from California ports and distributing them by road, rail and air to customers nationwide. Allen has said it would generate tens of thousands of jobs.
But the severe recession slammed consumer spending, knocked down trade volume - and torpedoed the local real estate market.
Leasing of Dallas-area industrial space went from a net gain of 5.2 million square feet in 2008 to a net loss of 1.8 million in 2009, according to Cushman & Wakefield.
"When you're not doing deals or selling land or leasing buildings, it's tough to generate cash flow," said Allen, who said his investment in the project is about $85 million.
Too little cash flow
The bankruptcy filing was made by DLH Master Land Holding LLC and Allen Capital Partners LLC, both led by Allen. It does not include organizations of the Allen Group, Allen's holding company, or the group's other entities in Kansas or California.
According to the bankruptcy filing, the Dallas Logistics Hub has about $170 million in debt backed by collateral, plus another $8 million in unsecured debt. But it has cash flow of only about $5 million a year.

Yes, I often think about how Detroit and Dallas are just alike. Particularly their economies and population growth.

and if you read this link and especially the last pages you will see the well documented shakedown attempts by the souf dallas mafia and how it has blocked the deal further...and of course just evermore evidence of why souf dallas is a crime filled dump of ignorance and stupidity

and what exactly makes dallas different.....both are medium size cities surrounded by much better run cities that are stealing the jobs from the actual core city.....both build stupid, disjointed, knee jerk projects on a whim and then wonder why they don't pan out and they watch as the suburbs steal even more jobs and industry while the city proper raises taxes and then flushes those dollars down the toilet on more BS

Victory Park = fail.....dallas transportation hub = fail......fancy Trinity River Bridges = fail......renting empty spaces in a ghetto mall to keep a flea market out = fail.....Trinity River roads = fail.......police pension fund high rise condos will equal fail.....city hotel will equal fail........and dallas is building fancy parks while trying to sell off other parkland and cutting park services = fail....and horribly run schools that were broke years ago before the economy went down = fail

you are mistaking metroplex growth for dallas growth and they are not nearly the same

^^^No they arent the same, but you want to know the huge difference between Dallas and Detroit: One grew economically and in population and the other didnt.

Dallas is not the best run city and its obvious there is some corruption, but lets not go overboard. There is nothing wrong with being a multipolar metro area.

you are taking a page right out of my book. I agree wholeheartedly, although I would have compared Dallas more to Philly than Detroit

Trinity River Bridge didn't fail, it's not even complete. The Convention Center Hotel is already booked and its not even finished. Horribly run schools.......WOW, but we have some of the best schools in the State and the Country. Fancy Parks are you serious? I didn't know a park could fail. Victory Park didn't fail it CAN be saved. Ghetto Mall LOL are you talking about Southwest Center Mall, who cares about that mall. They built a new mall not to far away from Southwest Center Mall.
