Multiple people were let go today at my office. I feel very fotunate to have not been let go, but, man, it's a bittersweet feeling watching others that I know need this job just as much as I do walk out that door for the last time.

Is this recession ever going to end?? And, please, if you're from out of state, don't move here thinking everything's peachy and you'll snatch a job right up! Things are still not as good here as they make it out to be!

I would look at it like, it's time to find something else. Who's to say you won't be next in the cut backs? Were these people slackers? In a department that downsized?

My job falls under the umbrella of TV/broadcasting.

Of the two I know that were laid off, one was somewhat of a slacker I guess and one was pretty new. I'll find out who else, if anybody, got the boot tomorrow.

I'm in (what I thought) was a very safe, recession proof job. I guess we're all getting hit though. It just seems to me to be kind of late to start laying people off. I thought the worst of this mess was behind us. The only thing I can think of is maybe we lost a big client or something in the past couple of weeks.

Very sorry to hear of that. I've been through a number of those; survived some and did not survive others.

That sucks. I've been through that too, recently. Terrible feeling. Lost a co-worker that was a good friend, and 2 others got fed up and found another job.

I still think back to when I was a child in Orange, Texas and there were companies there that would do everything they could to PREVENT layoffs. Just ain't the same anymore.

It's unfortunate. At my last job, word was the original owner had never laid anyone off. When he sold the company, things went downhill fast. I watched several groups of people get laid off; some we were terribly surprised to see go. I was happy that I was the only one that could do my job, but then my machine broke down and they decided not to fix it, so I was in the next group to go. It was strange just suddenly getting ejected from a company I'd worked at for five years, but maybe it's for the better. I wasn't going anywhere there. Too bad getting hired anywhere else is no easy task.

It does suck.. I was unemployed in 2008 but quickly snatch a job... also the recession been over since mid 2009, but the problem is creating jobs to meet the demand of people who is currently out of work or looking for work.

I really don't see how the recession can be declared to be over when unemployment is still high. I mean isn't that the main thing about a recession, the unemployment?

I agree. We're still in a serious recession, it is not over because someone waved a wand and said so.
