I am looking for a small town in Texas. Ultimately, I want a very family oriented enviorment. I have two small children and I want them to be able to ride their bikes and spent most of their time outside fishing, hiking and etc. My only concern, I do not want to live somewhere subject to hurricanes.

Mason or San Saba in the hill country. plenty of places to hike and plenty of streams and rivers to fish. small strong communities.

San Saba is nice, but depends on what kind of work the original poster is looking for...it's kind of remote....whereas Gatesville and Lampasas are commuting distance to Ft Hood (Killeen/Temple/Belton) area, where there are plenty of job opportunities. largest military installation in the world.

Heh, okay, you can pick from several hundred some towns in Texas based on your criteria. Do you need a particular kind of work nearby? Do you prefer places where it might get on the colder side (panhandle?) or prefer piney woods (NE Texas)? Do you like wide open, lightly populated places (West Texas) or closer to a bigger population center (Hill Country)? Small towns that are great for raising a family are everywhere....
