The deeper meaning of white-washed applies to Dallas as well, but that's hard to explain, especially to someone who thinks the term has something to do with race or politics.

And the winner is...Houston. Moving there in a couple of months. Planning to live in Montrose/Midtown/Museum area, or maybe the Heights.

Sounds like a good choice. I think you would also like East Dallas and North Oak Cliff in Dallas.
