Lookout! Its the spelling police!

Longview Regional...ah yes forgot all about it since its never on the commercials. "Good Shepherd" takes all the glory over there. They promote that hospital on our Tyler news more than anything even our own big 3.

KGGG also has daily flights to Dallas and Houston. I'm really doubting this Pounds Regional Airport that I've never heard of is much different than Gregg County Regional Airport.

Yeah, I mean, Tyler actually IS the the hub of East Texas. Longview is a destination for many, but I wouldnt call it a hub in the sense that Tyler is a hub. People from longview actually go to Tyler for quite a few things...People from Tyler dont really have to go to longview for much of anything. Thats not to say they dont go to Longview, but there is not much that Longview offers that Tyler doesnt, whereas Tyler has a few things that Longview doesnt. I love longview myself, but its not quite what Tyler is.

Tylerites go to Longview or other towns for alcohol. The 25 years or so I lived in the Longview area, I probably went to Tyler three or four times except to get laid. I'm not sure what's so great there that isn't in Longview, except for the colleges.

TGIFridays? Wineries? Rose Festival? Bars/Clubs? Smashburgers? Japanese Hibachi? Cheddars?

One thing that keeps Longview from being the Hub that it could be, in my opinion, is that: although a lot of people from Marshall, Kilgore, Winona, Gladewater, Carthage etc. go to Longview...People from those same towns, namely Marshall, Carthage and Hallsville are also just as likely to go to Shreveport due to its close proximity. And people from Kilgore, Winona, and Gladewater, or Chapel Hill are just as likely to go to Tyler due to its proximity. Combine this with the traffic that Tyler gets from towns like Palestine, Lindale, Rusk, Arp, Troup, Whitehouse, Bullard, Jacksonville, Chandler, and Athens, and I think its more likely that Tyler is a slightly larger hub for East Texans than Longview is.

P.S. who goes all the way to longview just for alcohol?

Tylerites need not go more than 10-15 miles in any direction for the nearest liquor store - Fact

Smith County (Winona & Troup) are now wet - Fact

Tyler is partially wet. Only wines made in Texas can be sold inside city limits.

Where do you get we have to drive 40+ miles to Longview for our alcohol?

You've said some pretty off the wall things lately, but this one takes the cake.

Hell I can grab a bottle of wine across the street from the mall.

According to you, "The Line", as us home grown Tylerites call it, starts in Noonday when in reality those liquor stores are several more miles down the road in Coffee City.

You can't even get your East Texas towns straight man. Give it up.

Wineries?
There's a winery just outside Hallsville. I believe there's also one or two near Gilmer.

Rose Festival?
Well yeah, but that's a special event, like the hot air balloon races.

Bars/Clubs?
Tyler does have better bars and clubs than Longview, but so does Kilgore.

Smashburgers?
Never heard of it. Is it like Jucy's?

Japanese Hibachi?
Shogun? Matsu? Kobee?

Cheddars?
Longview has a Cheddars, not that I see why that would be something to drive 40 miles for...

I grew up in the Carthage area and my father lives in the Hallsville area and people from around there only go to Shreveport to gamble or occasionally do some specialty shopping. People from Marshall are probably more likely to go to Shreveport though.

That's further than I ever had to go in Longview.

Yeah, I know about the wine store, but not everyone wants wine all the time.

I said "or other towns". I don't know where all Tylerites go for booze. When I had a girlfriend in Tyler, the nearest place was on 31 just outside Kilgore. She usually had me stop by on the way to her house since it was about 30 minutes from her. That's a long way to drive if you ask me. There may be a closer location now, but it's still too far.

When I lived in Longview, I could grab a bottle of whiskey a mile down the road.

You're mixing me up with someone else. I've never said anything about Noonday or Coffee City. I'm not sure I've even been there.

People who dont have one nearby.

Kind of, but I personally like Jucy's better. But Smashburger is a larger more nationally recognized chain.

I can believe this...I spent about half my childhood in Marshall, and it was nothing to slide over to Shreveport.

He is...He's actually sending shots at me there. In his blinded fury he has gotten himself turned around again, and has you confused with me. To fill you in a little, he's still brooding over the fact that I said that I drove to Noonday to go to Kiloland/Fat Dog beverages while he thinks Kiloland is in Coffee City, which according to him is light years away from Noonday. When in reality, Fat Dog is technically in Frankston anyway so he is equally incorrect. But in the end, whatever, who really gives a sh*t (other than him, I mean)?

I just don't see anyone driving from Longview to Tyler to go to TGI Fridays no more than I see someone driving from Tyler to Longview to go to Tele's, but to each their own.

So Longview has something better...

Yeah, Marshall is about halfway between Longview and Shreveport. Why drive to Longview when Shreveport is the same distance away? On the other hand, I grew up in Beckville (very near Carthage) and Longview was about half the distance, so that's where people usually went. Most of my family and friends back there drive to Longview at least once a week. Many work there. Most of them drive to Shreveport once every few months, probably about the same as people in Tyler driving to Dallas. They're even less likely to drive to Tyler.
