I agree. I would scream from the rafters if the Richardson ISD sponsored any H1-Bs while there's even a risk of existing teachers losing their jobs.

I bet there would be mutany if they started issueing work visas for teachers. I know I would be right out there with them protesting and raising holy heck if that happened. And I'm not a teacher.

Not likely to happen even in a teacher shortage because of the licensing issues. Part of the accountability ratings that school districts receive from TEA (adequate, recognized, exemplary, etc) is based on the percentage of "highly qualified teachers" in the district which is determined by the percentage of teachers who are Texas certified in their field. I don't know how many foreign teachers would be able go run the TEA certification gauntlet. Especially in the short amount of time they would have to do so. What is much more likely to happen in the event of teacher shortages is that uncertified subs get hired long-tem to take over classes that are missing teachers. Some subs are retired teachers from out of state who just sub for extra cash and something to do. Others are moms and housewives who just like being around the schools and who might have college degrees but not teaching certs. And some are certified teachers who can't find full time work.

I worked with a guy to find a home who was a fairly big executive locally. He confided he couldn't hire the college grads locally cause they wanted $50-60k to start right out of school and he could hire the imported guys for half that amount.

They want that because that's a bit above what the media reports the average starting salary at for I.T. grads, and you can't blame them for trying. They probably also have crippling student loan debt that the imported workers don't have to contend with.

FWIW it is illegal to pay the foreign workers less than what you'd pay an American. Not that the bigwigs care, or would ever be penalized for doing so. H1-B holders have kept wage growth in I.T. below inflation level for about a decade.

Thank you all for your replies. I understand your patriots feelings. I asked that because since some years ago, some school districts had been hiring foreign teachers for critical needs such Foreign Languages, Math, Science and others, that for I don't know which reason, were vacants.
As a matter of fact, I was one of the surprised when I heard US needed foreign teachers. I thought: Seriously? USA do not have enough teachers? but some States such Texas were looking and sponsoring Visa for foreign teachers who wanted to fill out that vacancies.
Thanks all again. Very ilustrative all the comments.
