On a side note, it always amazes me how many Americans will travel to Americanized Mexico resorts (so not to visit the local culture) but have never been to Miami.
I don't blame them. I have been visiting Miami since I was a kid ( Family reasons) it ain't nothing to shout about.

This is the only one I disagree with, and playing around with their numbers and demographics I've come to the conclusion that those bastards market themselves more than their worth.

I personally think Miami going from whatever Southern place it was 40 years ago to this all time high cosmopolitan image is a bit of a sham, I'll even venture to say that Houston & Dallas BOTH are more cosmopolitan, which is renowned for "international or worldly" appeal.

Miami the entire MSA is the only "big city" that I can think of that completely ignores an entire race of people, Asians. Houston & Dallas, while they don't match Miami in Latin American cultures have significant populations for Latin American cultures. Calling Miami international is an insult to all of us who aren't represented there, Dallas has more Asian Indians alone (only one ethnic Asian group) than Miami has all of Asians. It's Asian population is a whopping 2.2% of the entire metro's population, which is at 5.5 Million people. That is absolutely pathetic. Houston is 3 X that and Dallas is 2.5 X that. They're also weak on African & Australian numbers too.

Miami out of all the cities you listed as more cosmopolitan than Houston & Dallas is the only one that doesn't belong with the others. I love Los Angeles, its worked infinitely harder than Miami becoming global, every race and every ethnic group is represented there. Even Washington DC & Chicago do an infinitely better job than Miami.

I have nothing against Miami, I love the place but I envy how it gets away with all these things that Houston & Dallas always have to prove to others. I feel like Miami is given the free pass for everything. I'll agree to disagree though, I don't view Miami as a full cosmopolitan, towards Latin American & European culture, most certainly. But they completely ignore Asian, Australian, & African cultures.

American Travel is not limited to Mexico.

no one was talking about Tourism, but then again when all Miami has going for it is tourism then I can see why it would be brought up.

It's a matter of geography also. San Francisco doesn't have the Caribbean and Latin American influence of Miami.

Places like Orlando and Vegas are not better than Chicago and LA because they get more visitors.
The difference is that Orlando and Vegas built something artificially to attract tourism. Miami is visited because of its natural beauty.

Chicago is more popular by a long shot, visitors mean nothing. It only shows that people want more bang for their buck so they want to see more of Florida once they get tired of Disney World.

Miami is no where near Chicago level

Ok, so just HOW should popularity be measured?
