What I dislike*:

The summers - it never seems to cool off even at night. I can handle the daytime heat, but wish it would cool off at night so I can open the windows.

Traffic/congestion.

Pollution.

Lack of services for the poor.

Lack of public transportation.

The lack of real seasons and fall color.

*Most of what I dislike is probably more specific to Houston rather than the entire state.

What I love:

The food! :-)

The sheer variety of things to do and see - I asked for ideas for weekend getaways from Houston and got so many suggestions, it will take a long time to do them all.

The friendliness of (most) of the people.

The rich history.

The diversity of people and cultures.

San Antonio.

Washington County.

Now, if you DO live here and like nothing about it but hate everything about it? Then it is just a different kind of trade-off. That is to say, we will match your dislikes with a standing offer to buy you a one-way means of transporation out of here. Reckon, ain't that fair?
Why are some individuals so condescending? Just because you in TX doesn't mean you have to like everything about this state.
Pay for my flight ticket, my relocation cost, my new multimillion dollar house, and I'll be happy to get the heck out of here.
- The weather is terrible , so is the lack of public transit, but I can live with this.

True, but if you hate EVERYTHING about the state, why would you want to live here? Or moved here to begin with? Nothing condecending about that.

I think the reason why most people live in Texas is the cost of living and job opportunities with Oil and Gas industry. I doubt most think highly of Texas for anything else really.

I think that you're considering only the people who have moved here from somewhere else, and even then, I think that you're projecting your own viewpoint onto a pretty vast population.

I lived in Texas for quite some time.

Dislike:
- The heat! I'm from a Scandinavian country and Texas summers were brutal and hard to get used to.
- Religious/Racial/Sexual/Cultural Xenophobia. The state pride in Texas is ridiculous, not only to the point where foreigners are labeled as outcasts, but so are individuals from other American provinces/states. The retorts by other Texans in this thread is proof enough.

Like:
- The low cost of living and University tuition.
- Fisicaly conservative politics
- Texas Professional Sports teams (Dallas Stars, Mavericks, Houston Texans, FC Dallas)
- BBQ! Texas BBQ is one of the greatest things about America
- Hunter/Sportsman friendly

Thanks for reminding me of BBQ! I need to go buy some.

I've lived here all my life (well, not yet I haven't), and I'm still not used to the TX summers!
