This is a good sign for folks involved in the oil and gas business in this area.
Quote:
Chesapeake Energy Corp. will hold a job fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday in Uvalde at the Quality Inn at 920 East Main St. as it prepares to ramp up drilling in the Eagle Ford shale oil and gas play in South Texas.

<snip>

The companies will be hiring for the following positions: field technicians, pumpers, drivers, pipeline technicians, environmental health and safety workers, mechanics, roustabouts, rig hands, floor hands and facility operators.

I just moved this thread over from the San Antonio forum after realizing that Uvalde's outside the SA metro area.

Looking at the unemployment rates for that area I would have to agree:
Feb 2011
Uvalde: 9.7%
Kinney: 9.6%
Maverick: 17.1%
Zavala: 17.1%

Areas where they have been very active already....
Frio: 7.5%
LaSalle: 7.5%
Live Oak: 6.0%
McMullen: 6.5%
Webb: 8.4%
Atascosa: 8.1%

Good luck getting a hotel anywhere in the already active areas, booked solid from Cotulla to South San. I had to drive to Hondo to find a room a couple months ago, when I was in the area for work (not oil related).
