That part I didn't know anything about (not being a basketball fan), but a while back in a Texas history "round-table" discussion, the name of the college came up and all.

Anyway, I guess I got the floor now! LOL Gimme just a second to post it...

OK. Continuing on the general theme of Texas universities/colleges, and athletics...

The longest running major football rivalry within the state has been between the University of Texas at Austin, and Texas A&M. The teams first played against one another in 1894, when both were "independents."

In 1904, for the first and only time, they played against each other as part of the same athletic conference. What was the name of that conference?

Well, so far, I've found that Texas A&M won their first game that year, 49-0, against "Deaf and Dumb". I guess that was before the Texas State School for the Deaf went all PC on us. (Here's the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Texas_A...80%931909#1904 )

OK, looks like 1904 was the only year that both teams were in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

That's it!

UT left the conference after 1904 while A&M stayed in for another decade or so. The SIAA finally broke up completely, and member schools went on to eventually form the schools of the Southern Conference, the SouthEast, and SouthWest Conferences. And, of course in the case of UT and A&M, become part of the Big 12 South.

Next question:

Which county in Texas has never been carried by the Republican candidate in a presidential election?

My money would be on Starr County (Rio Grande City) in South Texas.

Umm...I know there was 2-3 three picked up by Bush which was the first time in GOP Texas history. But I can't think of any hold outs.

Nope, not Starr, but you're pretty close, and have the right demographic.
