It is being converted in sections. I think the next portion of I-69 is supposed to extend all the way down to the valley. Eventually it will be a major interstate going across the entire US.

Well, there's already an I-69 in the midwest..... Just call it, South 69.

Eventually, it'll connect.

There is a section in Mississippi and Memphis as well that has the sign.

Yep, that's our state's first stretch of I-69 (on which that leg will eventually be renamed I-69E when the national route from Laredo to East Texas becomes complete). I can't wait to head on down and give it a drive. They're working on the stretches near Driscoll, Bishop, and Kingsville. In addition, a few miles of I-37 will one day be multiplexed with I-69E between the Robstown and (eventual) Sinton cutoffs.

Well, it looks like I'll have to eat those words. If what Wikipedia is saying is actually true about the national mainline route for I-69 (what is being implied anyway), then it looks like Brownsville-Harlingen-Corpus Christi-Victoria will end up being part of the mainline for the road and not the Victoria-to-Laredo stretch as everyone I've read had indicated. TXDOT will tell us more later on.

Basically, when the signs went up in Robstown last December, the number read 69, not 569 or 369. I doubt very seriously that they'll go back and change the signage and the designation to something else once U.S. 77 is fully converted. That stretch there will basically be I-69. By the way, I did not realize that the Feds did away with letter suffixes years ago, so E or C will likely not be used anywhere. So a number of new scenarios will take place.

It's quite possible that U.S. 83 and U.S. 281 in South Texas will end up with 3-digit numbers (I-X69). 281 will be one of the spurs (beginning with either 1, 3, 5, 7, or 9) and 83 from Harlingen through Mission would likely get the loop routing (beginning with 2, 4, 6, or 8). This situation also creates something interesting for U.S. 59 from Victoria to Laredo. Don't be surprised if that route doesn't end with 69 at all, given that it is an east-west route and would need to end with an even number. That door may well be opened.

Oh, and also, Houston's Eastex Freeway outside of Loop 610 up to Splendora will be the next stretch to receive the I-69 designation. It will be followed by the Southwest Freeway outside of Loop 610 down to Rosenberg, followed by U.S. 59 inside of Loop 610. The latter two are still under FHWA review.

The goose drank wine. Catchy phrase.

I always thought that I-69 sounds like a pickup line used at a singles bar.
