D's Mediterranean Grill (15th & Colcord)--Awesome Mediterranean food. Have a gyro! Also great sweet tea. World Cup Cafe, catty-cornered to D's, has great food, too, and fairly traded crafts from around the world.
Baris (N. Valley Mills Drive between Sanger and Lake Air)--Local Italian dive.
Barbecue: Vitek's (16th & Speight, right on the interstate--known for the "Gut Pack"), Jasper's (Elm Street in East Waco), Tony DeMaria's (also on Elm), Uncle Dan's (Lake Air Drive near N. Valley Mills Drive)
Poppa Rollo's Pizza (N. Valley Mills between Sanger and New Road)--Characteristically quirky Waco place with incredible pizza and old-time movies.
Mexican: La Fiesta (Franklin & Valley Mills), Casa de Castillo (Sanger & Towne Oaks)
Bush's Chicken (everywhere!)--Awesome fried chicken and sides, addictive sweet tea.
Burgers: Dubl-R (18th & Herring)--My favorite burger in town. Cupp's Drive-In (15th & Speight, near Baylor). Kitok (18th & Maple)--Also serves Korean food. The Liplocker burger is soooo good. Also try the Asian fries. Health Camp (The Circle)--Fun holdover from the 50s. Great burgers and shakes.
That's just a sampling. The local dives are the greatest.

I have fond memories of Waco, having lived there in the early eighties. I hope to be moving back soon.

I always thought it was strange. But it is home to Dr. Pepper.

Remember the three B's:
1) Branch Davidian catastrophe
2) Bush
3) Baptists
They evoke strong emotions in lots of folks.

1. Crazies are everywhere.
2. How does one associate Bush to Waco? Is it because he landed at the airport at TSTC or because Crawford and Waco are both in McLennan County.
3. There is nothing wrong with Baptists. They are just God-believing people as are many from other religions.

1. Yep
2. Waco is the closest "city" to Crawford and is known to be conservative.
3. Since I'm a Baptist I won't disagree.
I just said that they evoke "strong emotions" from many folks. Right or wrong, it's true.

I don't know much about Waco but I've been through several times and all I see rundown buildings everywhere. I definitely do not have hates towards Waco. I don't know much about Waco so I don't care for it.
Tyler Lee played Waco in Football at our stadium back in maybe 2003 and the Waco fans were all pretty nice. I might be naive but I don't know much about it anyway.
