Waco has it's good and bad. Around downtown is gritty -- at least for Texas. But it has some great restaurants for the college-sized wallet.
George's, Ninfa's, Cricket's, Buzzard Billy's, Gratizano's, Diamond Back's, The Elite Cafe, and Rudy's are all great places that I wished we had up here in Dallas.
Out in China Spring is a nice hilly area. Very pretty. And Lake Waco is awfully nice too. Plus the Baylor campus ain't too shabby either.
People "hate" Waco because they know so little of it. It took me a while in college to start to appreciate the place. But once I appreciated Waco for what it was, I really started to like it. It can be a great college town. You just have to exit the Interstate.

I used to sort of hate Waco. At least I made fun of it at every opportunity. It doesn't appear to be anything special from the interstate, but a lot of places don't. It wasn't until I was there for three days for a tennis tournament that I got to know it. By the way, their tennis facility is awesome. Easily the best I've seen in Texas.
I no longer make fun of Waco.

Dallas did in spite of the fact that JFK was killed along with Oswald and Ruby serving his time in jail. That was a heck of a lot worse than what happened NEAR Waco.

Perhaps I didn't understand the original question.
I was referring to the tragedy of the Branch Davidians as I thought that's what the poster meant. It was mentioned on the thread in a prior post. Therefore, I mentioned the tragedy in Dallas in 1963. Of course, that was over 40 years ago. Maybe many will "forget" the BD tragedy when it's "old news."
If I misunderstood, I apologize.

no you're fine. no need to apologize. i come to you in peace n love... very civil... no malicious or pompous attitude.
there is the image of waco being "wacky" in the public stream... outside/media etc.
its due in large part to yes the BD think... but im guessing perhaps other incidents as well.
dallas has other stereotypes that its now dealing with. dallas was able to (some will argue that it hasnt) settle its stigma of being assasination city ... because it has a lot more going for it and is a lot bigger of cultural icon then waco.
so the size and force of dallas has helped it become known for other things... of which i mentioned in my previous post.
so how will waco (which isn't popularly known for much other then the BD thing) overcome its stigma?
what you think?
with resepct,
thnx

Thank you for your ever so polite post and understanding that people do make unintentional mistakes.
You know, I really don't know the answer. It will take someone far more intelligent than I about Waco to be able to answer that question.
The only thing, I guess, for which it is well known is Baylor University. Go Bears!!

Oh yes, I catch your drift. I just love the "someone broke my crayons" comment. I'll have to remember that one for life away from City Data.
