Be careful. One fire has charred over 70,000 acres about 100 miles east of Lubbock, and others have hit the Davis Mountains area and other parts of W. Texas. The danger is expected to move eastward toward the Metroplex Sunday, and possibly S. Texas Monday.

125 SQ. MILES burned as of Sun morning in the panhandle fire, and the one at Ft. Davis has already swept through the main town - according to latest news.

According to the Dallas paper it is Knox County and is heading quick towards Benjamin and Guthrie.

My thoughts and prayers with everyone in my home state!

I heard on the news this morning Texas has now topped all states for the record of land burned, the 125 square miles to which you refer and the area will likely grow even larger. I heard it was 0% contained this morning. Pitiful! That's hard to believe, but I guess the news was correct. What's next?

Default Fort Davis wildfire

I can't seem to find accurate updates on this fire. One report says it has destroyed 5 homes, another says 50. Either way, it's not good to hear. The area in and around Fort Davis is my favorite area of Texas. It makes me sad to think that even one home has been lost, or one acre of land destroyed. My thoughts and prayers go out to all those in harm's way in my home state.

Not just the next few days, the danger will be on going all summer if we don't get some rain soon.

Even NewsWest Nine in Midland (the NBC affiliate that serves Alpine) didn't have much coverage for Fort Davis, but it's all bad news for the whole area--Midland, Jeff Davis, Terrell, etc.

Yes, I'm following NewsWest9 on Facebook and another page someone put up called Fort Davis Fires.

Now there are reports of another fire near Sanderson (3700 acres) and the Marfa/Ft Davis fire spread to parts of Alpine. Hwy 17 between Fort Davis and Balmorhea is now closed. Ft Davis has no power and isn't expected to get it back until Friday. They have water, but the Fire Dept is asking residents to use it minimally.

The courthouse in Ft Davis appears to be okay but there are some homes behind it that are gone. Last reports from several hours back state that the Prude Ranch is okay too. Some of the pictures being posted show the scorched, black mountains. This just makes my heart hurt....
