Paris is a WONDERFUL town to live in. True, we don't have a mall, but its a short drive to Sherman or North Dallas area (McKinney, Frisco). Plus we are getting a pets mart and the target coming to town rumor has resurfaced, so maybe that will happen!!! Bath and Body works, Home Depot, JC Penny, Sears, Bealls, Belk and many charming stores on the squares... Spanglers is the BEST!!! just to name a few....

We have more restuarant choices than TaMollys (Applebees and Chilis... and local favorites such as Magels, Girabaldis, Fish Fry, plus more...)

Yes, we did have a little race issue last year, but most people get along. There are many bi-racial families. It was blown up bigger than it needed to be...

For the couple being transferred, I would stick to the Chisum or North Lamar school districts. Chisum is located south and west, North Lamar is mainly north and also some areas west of Paris.

Paris and south the land is blackland, so if it isn't raining you better water your slab, so the cracks don't destroy your house. The Northern part of the county is prettier than the southern, but it is also a little more costly.

I have lived in the DFW metro area and wouldn't go back for a million dollars.. OK who am I kidding I would, but I would be miserable. I can't stand the traffic when I go back for a visit.

Oh... and for factories.... Kimberly Clark, Campbell Soup, and Sara Lee are the biggest. There is a christmas tree factory and one that makes boxes for companies like Sonic, can't think of its name..

Hope this helps...

Hi, I'm not familiar with this term "blackland", can someone please explain it to me? Is it a type of clay soil? Thanks.

In plain English.....it's heavy black dirt, sticky when wet and hard when dry---no sand in it---if farmed correctly and with the right equipmeht, it grows very good crops.

I wouldn't call Paris, wonderful. I would say an ok place to live. I have had the opportunity to live here almost 2 years. Some of the people in Paris are really nice, some are not. While I would prefer a city like Dallas, I realize everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I have 2 kids in school. One is in Paris ISD, the other goes to Trinity Christian Academy. I have had great experiences with both. There are lots of sports the kids can participate in around town.

Housing in Paris can be tricky. The term, "you get what you pay for" fits Paris well. It is possible to buy a nice home in Paris. However, your definition of nice may not be the same as someone elses.

Not being from Paris, I have found it difficult to get service work advertised in the yellow pages. I have called electricians, plumbers, etc and have not had much success. Either people don't have to work or choose not to call back numbers they don't know.

If I had the chance to do it again, I would have chosen to move to a commutable suburb of Dallas (McKinney, Melissa, Sherman). I like having the opportunity to expose myself and my children to things like museums, art festivals, fine dining, shopping, higher learning, major sporting events, having the airport close by... walking around my neighborhood on a SIDEWALK, having leash laws, STOP signs at street ends, nice roads to drive on in town, a library that is open 7 days a week and more shopping than Wal-Mart. Yes, there is Belk, JCPenney, Sears, Bealls, Goodys... however, these stores are small in what they offer compared to their counterparts in other cities that aren't necessarily larger.

Just another opinion of a town called Paris.

to answer some of the questions about this town... paris is a small town with not much to do .. we have a few stores to go shopping at nothing great.. there are factories to work at here.. as for the whole interracial couple its not that bad here a lot of ppl are in interracial relationships and yea there are ppl who may have a problem with that but thats anywhere... i was born and raised in this town and no matter how many times i try to leave i always come back.. not everybody is throwin up privacy fences but if they r its their business .. 1 thing about this place though its a small town so everybody knows everybody and there is quite a bit of drama but other than that i love it here..

You also may want to consider Tyler Texas and the areas North of there. I live in Wood County, in Quitman Texas. There are alot of small towns surrounding that you may want to check out. Mineola, Texas, Lindale, Texas, Winnsboro , Texas.
