Any Texans wanna tell me about Paris, TX? (Dallas, Howe: homes, employment)

Would like to hear from anyone who lives in or near the area/ lived in or near the area.

Geography of the area, weather conditions, people, work, etc.

Why.....It is a quite town but not much to do..... Not a very social town.

We're kinda kickin' around the idea of moving and Texas has come up in more than one conversation of ours. We're not looking for night life. An occasional dinning out would be nice. If it's a drive to go shopping and stuff, that might be fine, depending how far away we're talking.
We're more interested in a sleepy town, large home with lots of property and is fairly inexpensive. That's why Paris has come up in conversation.

They make a lot of soup there (something like 1/3 of the campbells soup sold in the US, I think). It is pretty county, if I remember correctly, with a little more rain throughout the year than further west, so it stays more green. I think it might be a dry county, dunno if that matters one way or the other to you. I have only been there on business a couple times, and that was years ago.

On the bright side, I always thought it would be cool when we were travelling to tell people we were from Paris .

My parents grew up in Paris area and moved to Dallas in the early 1950s. I visited my relatives including both grandmothers for several decades - but most everyone has died now. So, it doesn't quite seem the same to me. But Paris is a bit different from many small Texas towns as it had quite a classy European presence at its start. You can still see some magnificent historic homes up and down Church Street and a couple of others. The town square is also different in that the courthouse is not there but located a block or two away. The square boasts a magnificent fountain and the shops and buildings around the square are most charming along with a few nearby grand old churches. There is actually a hip bar on one of the corners of the "plaza" located in a former bank.

Anyone I have ever met from Paris, TX has been very friendly.

u said ur not interested in the night scene ok .. if u drink 4 miles to the nearest beer store .. we have what they call a mall but its a laugh .. alot of older ppl so for the most part its quite .. depends where u go in the town ... i have lived in paris for 25 years .. stupid city laws but we live with them .. if you want any specifics about the town get back with me and ill tell ya nething you want to know about this town

Everyone throws up privacy fences so they won't have to deal with their neighbors. The gasoline merchants are constantly sticking it to us as well as the Appraisal Office.

A dull and boring town.

If I were looking for a town to retire to it would not be Paris,Tx.

We do make a lot of soup here & I have been helping make it for 33 years. Thank goodness for Campbell Soup.

My father was born and raised in Paris, Tx. and I was born in Paris as well. Our family moved to Dallas where my father went to find work in the fifties. However, Paris is the home of my heart and I have many fond childhood memories of visiting my grandmother in Paris during summer vacations. Every few years I go back to Paris just to reminesce, although my grandmother passed away in 982. The downtown area was abandoned for awhile and I'm so glad to see that it is in revival! It is a very friendly and beautiful small town. I would definitely recommend retirement in that town if you want peace and quiet. Not really much there for the young and adventurous, although Paris is the home of a very good junior college. It is a nice place to raise small children if you can find employment there or as I said, to retire.
