I believe that the "Southern racism " is a hoax, created by the NE leftists,to defame the Southern people who don't buy their socialist, anti-gun, criminal loving agenda...

Real-life racism in the South collapsed after 1965. That is ancient history by now...
The last true racists passed away in the '70s & '80s...
They were succeeded by the children & grandchildren who are not racists.

On the contrary,the "southern character " is open & straightforward,it makes a clear color-blind distinction between "good & bad " people .

In the NE there is a "liberal" facade hiding a subtle racism...

You will want to look for a house in North Longview this is the direction the city is growing-Nice and Clean--- Iv lived in east longview and prefer its more layed back (and bigger properties) to the hustle and bustle but either way you cant go wrong. ps South longview is the part you want to avoid

Have you ever been sitting in Red Lobster and had a family sit down across from you with a child who is Autistic and just having a real bad day? They get some SERIOUS looks, don't they!!!
Well, I've read most of what was said here, and see that I am still surrounded by idiots. There is racism in every town...in every state...in every country all over the world. It is a fact of life...period. It is a 'Nature' thing. Man is not the only one with the 'problem'...and I suppose we will continue to 'dub' it as a problem. Is skin color any different than being fat? How about ugly? You think 'stupid' could fall in here somewhere? Let's go to the age thing. Old people! Are they a problem? If so, how about Downs Syndrom...we have a problem with that? We could go on and on, but it is pointless. Apparently you are uncomfortable about others knowing you are married to, and have children by a white man. There will always be those that will refuse to accept this...I am one of them. I don't believe in mixing races, but it is a fact of life...it happens. You ask, "why do I have to problem with mixing the races?" Because of the children. You make the choice for yourself, but you also make the choice for the children that are brought into a situation such as this. It makes it tough on them, and they don't deserve it. They have too many problems the way it is.
I lived in Longview and the surrounding areas for right at 13 years. I never did like the people there. I can tell you that you need to stay away from Nelson Street. I can tell you that these 'Bubba' people can be found in the Hallsville and Gladewater areas. I can tell you that people of prominance in the Longview area are klannish...meaning that if you are not from around that area, and are not of a certain degree of wealth, you will be kicked to the side. I would also tell you that if I were raising a family, and had intentions of moving to Longview, I would move to one of the small communities outside the city...outside of Longview ISD. It will be tougher on you to get situated there, and will take some time before you are accepted, but once you are you'll be glad you stayed.
Bottom line, do what I do. I can do no more about the way I look than you can, and I don't think either one of us want to. God made me, and I am more than I appear. Folks have to look deeper...past the skin...past the fat...past the ugly. And when they get past all that, they will find that I'm a pretty good ole boy. I have no African American friends. I have black friends...very close black friends. We have been in positions together where we depended on each other for our very lives...some are closer than brothers to me, and likewise. They tell me that they've never been to Africa...don't know the first thing about it. I have friends that speak mexican...they are not Mexican...they are Americans who speak mexican. I don't have any Asian friends, but I do eat Asian food on a regular basis, and don't have a problem with them. I just don't like it when they go mixing themselves up. I think it takes away from what they are...for some reason...and that part, I can't quite explain. So you see, I don't have a problem with the races...just don't mix them up...that's all.

I'm well aware that racisim still exist but we don't have to deal with too much of it where we live now, Cali is kind of a melting pot. My husband and I fully understand that Texas will be different ie. weather, lingo, things to do. My question is where are the area's of the town that we should stay away from? It's hard to do real research on a place that you've never been to. We are excited for this new adventure. It'll be nice to get away from the superficial attitudes of some Californians, and be welcomed with that southern hospitality. Any and all input is welcomed! Thanks!
Don't do it Miss Celie!!!

What do you mean O1indianBob don't mix the races up??? do uou mean that you feel everyone should date & marry someone in their own race??? and what about our constitution rights???? Does "Love" have a certain color??? Everyone has a right to have an opinion but at the same time everyone has right to date & marry whom they want without opinionated people judging them...this contributes to racism and adds fuel to the fire!!!!

Black and white relationships here are still considered taboo for the most part. You will get looks, sneers and once in a blue moon someone will make a comment. But even though people don't agree with it you're still more likely to be treated with respect because southern hospitality is just second nature to us.

But it's not so bad that you can't live here.

I say give it a shot.
