Red face Relocating from Arizona to Texas

We are thinking of relocating from Phoenix, Arizona to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I have never been to the area but my husband has. We are currently looking at homes in Allen, Arlington, N. Richland Hills and Keller. Our home price range is $200K-$300K. We currently live in a gated golf course community, we are looking for a similar type neighborhood. Also looking for a culturally diverse neighborhood as well. We have elementary age children and we are looking for a good school district. After researching some of the areas, I just became aware of the high property taxes in the area. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
