That's the average from 1961 to 1990.

Expecting snow in north Texas - the Denton area - is not a plan. It may snow in November but not likely. I've waked (woken?) up to a foot of snow in Fort Worth, don't recall the month, but sometime after Christmas... I had a new bike. Long about 2005, Dallas had a most excellent snow on Feb 14. Thick and heavy, it snowed until noon. Was gone by the next morning.

So, you can expect snow, just don't plan on it. Depth and duration will depend on what Canada sends our way.

Keep in mind that Dallas-Fort Worth can be paralyzed by a snowstorm that dumps 3-6 inches of snow because there are very few snowplows in this region.

No. Anything in the shaded 1"-5" area gets between 1" and 5" on average. The closer a place is to the 1" line, the lower the average, and the closer to the 5" line, the higher the average. The snowfall in a particular year can be from zero to a foot or more, however.

Dallas/Ft. Worth gets 2.6" of snow/sleet/ice pellets on average. Wichita Falls (125 mi NW of Dallas) gets 5.8". I would assume that Denton would get 3 inches or less on average.

This year, just north of Denton, we got a total of nearly 12 inches. Last year, it was more and snow/ice remained on the ground for a couple of weeks. We have had snow on Thanksgiving and on Easter. At times, it has snowed as much as 14 inches in a single day. At other times, it has snowed so frequently that it never completely melted off for over a month. Conversely, there have been years when we didn't get any.

The point is that, yes, it snows, but the amount and frequency varies greatly from year to year.
