Default Texas college towns

Which college town did you go to school in? What was it like living there? Would you have preferred to go to school in a city/town not centered around it's college?

I am a UT-Austin alum and Austin is also all about state govt in addition to colleges. I liked Austin okay, but was very glad to leave it after my 5 years there attending school.

I went to school in Huntsville for 4 years and loved it there but I was also glad to leave it for the big city after graduation. I sometimes miss going out to Huntsville State Park on the weekends for a hike or bike ride.

The list doesn't include either San Antonio or El Paso. I attended UT El Paso when it was known as Texas Western. Later in life I returned to university at UT Austin for a degree in a different field, and then obtained a graduate degree at UT San Antonio. My experiences were similar in all three since I didn't live on campus at any time.

I earned my undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University. I absolutely loved it there! I lived on campus for a while and then lived in an apartment off campus after that. There are numerous clubs, sports bars, restaurants, etc., off campus for students to meet up with friends and have a good time. The citizens of Lubbock were friendly and very supportive of Tech when I was going there and I really enjoyed attending a large university and all the things that go with it, especially sports. I'm a huge football fan so I was in Jones Stadium for almost every home football game. Lubbock is fairly large for a "college town" so I wouldn't necessarily say that the entire city is centered around Tech. However, Tech's impact on the city is still very significant. I have no regrets at all about attending Tech or living in Lubbock.

None of the above; College Park Maryland. If I would have attended College in Texas, it would have been A&M. I just think it's a great school.

Texas Tech is another place I would have considered going. It's a fine University and Lubbock is a nice city. I like the weather in Lubbock too; the humidity there is so low and pleasant.

I attended universities in Abilene and Denton. I loved the University of North Texas. Denton was a good town too. But the major attraction of Denton is proximity to DFW.
