More so than just about anywhere and Spring dust storms are very bad. The folks in the area are down home friendly, maybe more so than any other town I deliver to. I deliver to the prison regular and it is a large facility. Both Lubbock and Midland are reasonable drives on good highways. Hispanics probably make up at least half the town, but having lived in McAllen myself I'd say most folks here are pretty laid back. Don't get bad vibes from the Hispanic folk here, vast majority are much more Texan than Mexican. Hope this helps.

I have to throw my two cents in here and I don't want to offend/ rain on anyone's parade. I'm a native Texan (in nursing school), have lived here my entire life, and know the state quite well. As for Lamesa, I would strongly advise you to pursue your other options, no matter how enticing the Lamesa opportunity is.

yeah, i have done some research, and talked to a good friend in Big Spring who knows the town pretty well, and my friend advised against it totally, and said that the job in Colorado City/Snyder area, or Amarillo would be a much better choice.........i think i have wiped out the idea of Lamesa. it was just such an opportunity (but then again, so was the job that brought me to the hellhole i am in!)

I'd say Lames is a small town version of a cross between Midland and Odessa. The town is split down the middle with about half of the population being Anglo and the other half being Hispanic. If I had to choose between Snyder and Lamesa I'd surely go with Snyder. Even though I consider Snyder a small town it is Dallas compared to Lamesa.

I need help!! I will be moving to Lamesa soon and need to find a house for my children and I. Can someone please tell me where to look on the net for the housing situation there, or refer me to some rental agencies?

I'll be there on the job Tuesday. I'll ask around and get a local paper.

A friend of mine spent her first 45 years there and just moved to Plano last Spring. Said that it took forever to sell her house.. She said the last few years it just got down right depressing. I've never been there myself....

My husband was born and raised there and I taught there for four years. It's a nice town. The people are very friendly and nice. There's not a lot to do in town, but it's not far to Lubbock or Midland. The drive in theater is kind of novelty and a big hang out type place for people. It used to be open year round, but don't know about now. It's still a lot of the same people that my husband grew up with. The spring wind storms are NOT fun at all because of all the sand blowing, but you get used to it. It is at least half hispanic, but I don't think it's like south Texas. If you want a nicer place to live, definitely look on the north side of town. We actually still own a house there but I don't know if it's where you would want to rent at. Lots of cotton fields, a small golf course. It is a dry county if that's something you would want to know. There is a WalMart and grocery store. If you're not looking to live in a big city but want to be close to one, I'd say it's a good pick. If you're not in to the laid back lifestyle, I'd say Amarillo may be a better choice. Hope some of that helps. Good luck!

i've lived in lamesa all of my life...28yrs. it's a good place to raise your kids, the schools are good and the people are friendly. it has 2 grocery stores, a few good places to eat, a wal-mart, a beall's dept store. downtown just got a facelift, so it's nice. if you don't mind alittle dust storm every once in a while, it's ok. there's a place to tan, some good hair and nail places..a movie theatre and drive-in. try the chihuahua sandwich at the sky-vue, they're awesome! lamesa sits between lubbock and midland for a day of shopping and/or hanging out. we are a dry county, but the nearest beer/liquor store is only a mile or two away in a little town called los ybanez. the new hospital, where i work, is about to open in late october/early november. prison is a good place to work, my husband earns good $ there. keep lamesa as an option. crime rate is low as is cost of living. i like it, don't plan on leaving anytime soon

Default Lamesa

I lived in the South Plains and Panhandle for some years (Lubbock, Brownfield, and Pampa). I now live in South Texas but I do miss the nice people from that area. They are very welcoming and if you want to be a part of a community, this is the place to do it.
