No, it was last year too. I painted the entire inside of my house as well as the trim on the outside in the summer of 2005 and it was hot, but when 2006 rolled around, I said to myself that I was extremely glad I wasn't painting this year. That's how I remember 2006 being so hot, but I wasn't right about it being the second highest year. I found the link and the information below it on the web to clarify my mistake. Nevertheless, it was a deadly year with the heat. link.... Deadly heat bakes portions of Texas - USATODAY.com ....link 100-degree streak broken for Dallas/Fort Worth... The scattered thunderstorms that developed today... helped to keep temperatures cooler. The high temperature at Dallas Fort Worth Airport today was 96 degrees... which occurred at 2:03 PM. This broke the streak of 19 consecutive days with temperatures at or above 100 degrees. Rank # of days year (dates) 1 42 1980 (Jun 23 - Aug 3) 2 29 1998 (Jul 6 - Aug 3) 3 25 1952 (Aug 2 - Aug 26) 4 24 1999 (Jul 28 - Aug 20) 5 20 1954 (Jul 9 - Jul 28) 6 19 2006 (Aug 8 - Aug 26) 7 18 1978 (Jul 2 - Jul 19) 8 17 1956 (Aug 2 - Aug 18) 9 14 1993 (Aug 9 - Aug 22) 10 tie 13 2000 (Aug 24 - Sep 5) 10 tie 13 1951 (Aug 25 - Sep 6) Gadzooks! I don't even remember 1999 and it was 4th in line. That's why I have to rely on stats most of the time. I apologize for my error in ranking for 2006. |

Yeah...I remember 1999. It was unbearable. 1998 was hot. But 1999 was even hotter. But there is a common theme on those dates. The month of August is hell in the state of Texas. Sometimes it begins in July and sometimes it lasts into September. But August is involved in just about every one of them.
* I just noticed 1998 being 2nd...WHOA. I left to go to Florida for a year in July 1998 and it was hot before I left. But I came back just into for the fun in August in 1999 and every day had it's high over 100 in Central Texas, I believe. One thing is for sure. In my years in the state of Texas. I never felt hotter than Labor Day 2000 and the day after Labor Day. I believe every city in Texas was above 110. |

In the mid to late 90s, the hot summer drought killed many farms in South Texas. I remember this because local crop duster pilots had to sell their businesses

I remember 1998 very well. It was the hottest I've seen it around here since I moved here in the late 80s. The heat was just brutish. At the time, we were living in an apartment and you couldn't step outside without being hit with a wave of heat. 1999 was bad, but not quite as bad as '98. I remember listening to the radio at night and it would be something like 98 degrees at 10:30 pm.
I never thought I would see a high temp of around 80 degrees for the Fourth of July like we did the other day. |

Dallas nightlife is pretty sophisticated so you have to be clued in to know the hotspots of the moment. Some places do not have signs and are purposely 'hidden'. If a nightclub or restaurant can last more than 4-5 years, it becomes a classic. You know, kind of like the night life in NYC? |
