Internet Job Postings
I am curious if anyone has posted a job opening on one of the internet job sites like monster? If so, any luck? Waste of money? If so, which ones were best? Do you stay local? Like I'm in the Dallas area, would I be better off posting or just listing it here or statewide? Or even national?
Has anyone found a job via one of these sites? What ones are the most popular for people to look at?
We have several open positions and the local paper has just gotten outragous for what they charge for just a weekend run. I even had a sign done like you see out in front on the street and that was "okay" last year when we had an opening but this year it has not drawn in one person.
I have looked at our "professional association" website and they are a member of one of these sites and there are jobs posted there but it is on a national level.
Thanks

The job web sites are becoming more and more popular, especially with the just-out-of-college crowd; it is still a little hard to get the old dogs like me to change. Anyway, I don't know how much the cost to search on there, but if you are looking for entry level or low experience positions, it is probably not a bad idea. Higher level experience jobs may not have that much luck.
I know that restaurants and "non-career" positions are usually filled locally, so they probably use the papers more than anything else.

Thanks. I don't know why it is so hard now. It has never been like this before.
We have 3 positions right now and two are "entry level" but require that one can pass a drug test (thats the kicker right there), DOT physical, and have a current CDL Class B w/ Hazmat. We get people coming in w/o their CDL but we can't really hire them because now w/ the gov't background checks it takes anywhere from 30-90 days for someone that already has theirs when they renew to get "approved".
The other position does require experience in the industry. Around here everyone pretty much knows who works where and who is looking for a new "home" and/or who has an opening. What has really hurt has been the number of people retiring in the field. Never had to advertise at all for these positions because word of mouth was all it took or they were knocking on your door. Or you had people that wanted to move up to those positions inhouse.
I've checked out a few of these internet job sites and they run a little over $300 to post one job. About the same it costs to place an ad for the weekend in the local paper. I've just never known anyone firsthand that has done the internet job thing.
So, if anyone knows anyone looking for a job in the Dallas area and they have their CDL, pm me.

Just out of curiosity, what is required for the Hazmat endorsement? Any training, or just the background check? Not that it helps much, but we do hazwoper and response training and I don't recall anyone calling about trying to get an endorsement for a CDL, so I am guessing it is just the background check.

Hazmat endorsement
It is part of their CDL (commercial drivers license) just like air brakes and such. It authorizes them to transport hazardous materials. I guess it is part of the background check thing the DPS is doing since 9/11.

My husband found his job on monster. We were in Arkansas at the time and traveled here to L.A. for the job. This same company posted another job opening on craigslist and it was filled by someone who lived in Florida.
