You're really going to compare small town America to Houston? Seriously?
It is not quite easily more diverse than the other three. Especially Miami. I've come to the conclusion that you know little about Miami.

It is and isn't more diverse than Miami. Miami does not have the mix of geographical races that Houston has, but it has larger sub-groups. You will find Colombian, Cuban, Haitian, Jamaican, Puerto Rican, etc. communites. In Houston, you don't find many communities like that.

Houston is racially more diverse, but it might be tied or a little behind Miami ethnically.

The biggest difference is that Miami/South Florida has a smaller Asian population than the Houston area, but a more diverse Hispanic/Latino population. While the South American and Caribbean Hispanic population has increased substantially in Houston, I'd say that Miami's is still more diverse. Also, more Anglo/White-Non-Hispanics are in the Houston area than Miami-Dade and Broward. Both beat Dallas and Atlanta in terms of a cosmopolitan population though.

South Florida has a larger and more diverse Hispanic population. It really isn't close either. Houston is getting more diverse within the Hispanic population, but it isn't at the level of Miami. Miami and Houston are about equal in diverse black population. Miami has more Carribean Blacks but Houston has more Africans. Houston has by far more Asians but Miami has by far the larger and more diverse European population. As pointed out by David Dollar. Houston is more diverse racially. But ethnically, Miami is more diverse than Houston. It as well as Toronto and NYC are the three most multicultural cities in North America.

Nah. It's not tied or even a little behind Miami. Miami is solidly ahead of Houston in this front ethnically. Walk around Little Havana and you will see it. In fact, believe Little Havana has more Nicaraguans than Cubans.

Only partially true...

Miami doesn't have near the Vietnamese, Chinese, Fillipino, Korean, Indian, Pakistani, Nigerian, Mexican, & Salvadorian populations Houston has.

Harris County (Houston) has one of the largest Hispanic/Latino populations in the US (Top 3 or 5 if I recall), Miami's is just more diverse culturally. Houston has a lot more Mexicans & Salvadorians than Miami which has more Cubans, Colombians, Puerto Ricans, Haitians, Jamaicans, as well as more Europeans from Spain.

Houston is more Asian, Miami is more Latino.

A Latino person of any culture would not feel out of place in Houston or Miami because Spanish is basically the same all over the World as is English. An Asian person would feel out of place in Miami though because the languages & cultures vary so widely.

End of story.

Not true at all. If you are not Mexican or Salvadoreno, you will not fit in in Houston.

Oh please!

Houston has plenty of Colombians, Cubans, Puerto Ricans, & Spaniards...just not nearly as much as Miami...no where close. In fact, there is a very good Cuban restaurant in Downtown Houston. I also went to school with a lot of Puerto Ricans & Jamaicans in Houston. They came there just for school & a lot of them stayed to live & work after they graduated.

Spanish is pretty much a universal language as is English. Some words or phrases might vary slightly, but the understanding is exactly the same. A Mexican or Salvadorian could communicate with a Colombian or Cuban & vice versa with little, if any difficulty.

A Chinese person for example could not communicate with a Vietnamese, Fillipino, or Korean no matter how hard they try even though all are in Asia.

This is why I think Houston overall is more diverse & cosmopolitan than Miami. Racial diversity & cultural diversity go hand in hand, but are NOT the same thing.

Houston is the 5th largest US metro.

Miami is the 8th largest US metro.
