Default Best food city in Texas?

I'd say in the end it's between Houston and Dallas. San Antonio's Tex-Mex is top notch. But Houston and Dallas have more diversity in their choices. Austin is pretty good, but in the end, it doesn't really have anything that Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio doesn't.

Houston has more people than Dallas, San Antonio and Austin. Therefore, most likely, we have more chefs and cook which results in more restaurants. More restaurants mean more competition which results in better food .

(This statistic has been proven by... my mouth )

I voted Houston because of the sheer variety. Austin has some good food, but not as much food diversity.

Austin is probably the biggest up-and-comer, with more new restaurants opening per capita, but I'd place Houston at number one. This is the general consensus in the overall U.S. restaurant culture, with Dallas in a pretty close 2nd. San Antonio wins for Tex-Mex.

@NTT - Houston's size has less to do with it than you would imagine. Houston's strongpoint lies in it's international culture. New Orleans and Honolulu are both world-class restaurant cities, and they are much smaller than either Houston or Dallas.

Please read my last sentence again .

In other words, my post wasn't meant to be serious because the statistic came from my mouth .

Alrighty then! Sorry I jumped the gun. It's just that I work in a restaurant and have owned a restaurant, and I come into contact with people all the time who think a city's size determines the quality and/or diversity of their food culture. Glad you were just joking.

Austin has the best BBQ. Dallas has the best Tex-Mex. Houston has the best Asian.

San Antonio is the TexMex hub, so of course they'll have the best.

I've had "Texas barbecue" at several locations across the state and was disappointed each time. The only good BBQ places I've eaten at here were black-owned, and as you can imagine, pork (not beef) was the specialty. I do like HEB's brisket, though.

The best BBQ I ever had in Texas wasn't in the big cities. Coopers in Llano and Kreutz' Market in Lockhardt are hands-down the best I've had in TX, and I've eaten at more BBQ joints in TX than I care to count.
