Funny. We are east of Abilene and got very little rain this year as well. These past couple of weeks have broken that stride... Thank Goodness. Yes. We are hoping the rain will hang out a while longer and that the cool temps will just keep getting cooler. I'm wondering if this last year is a good description of expected weather here?

....even though temps are often lower, the FEELS LIKE is MUCH higher due to the unbearable humidity. Do you know what I mean? TX might register higher temps sometimes, but when they do , the dryness keeps our "FEELS LIKE" temp much lower than FL.
I know EXACTLY what you mean...and that is why (if I have anything to say about it) I will always stay in a fairly dry environment. 100 is far more bearable here (just barely) than 85 is in a very humid place.
I worked for 6 months in MS from April on, and I never got used to it. I was never so glad to get back home.
As far as our rain goes? Prior to August with it's record-breaker, we had been up to FIVE inches for the whole year. We've been in a drought for the last 12 years, with only two of those years at or above normal.
Feast or famine for sure.

Yes. We are definitely in sync about humidity and it's suffocating effects. I had no idea a drought could last for so long. Doesn't that just become the norm after a while? It's been sprinkling here all night and gentlt this A.M. Honestly, I think that's a first since we got here almost a year ago. It's very beautiful (except for the snake presently swimming around, down in my pool) ugh. Nice talking with you. Here's hoping for snow!

Ewww, you poor girl. I would be terrified all the time I lived there. No rest, always worrying about those darn snakes. Gee, I don't worry that much here where I live about them. Maybe I should stay here.

The weather is screwy this year. West Texas has had a lot of rain,
|
We did?Where?I live in the heart of west Texas and until this week we were on pace to set the record for the driest year ever.As of the middle of August we had had less than 7" of rain. These last couple of systems have ensured we won't break the record, but we have hardly had a lot of rain.

In what part of West Texas do you live? I'm in Midland....and we just finished August as a record, with nearly 6 inches for the month. Our total is now nearly 13 inches, where we had been at 4-5 inches YTD prior to August.
El Paso has had +/- 16 inches so far this year, twice the normal amount!
It wasn't enough here to break the long drought, but hey, I'll take what we can get!
