Smile Is it cooling off??

My first year outside of Abilene is winding up.We arrived in October of last year... At that time, the mornings had frost on the ground and we were in heaven. The weather has been gorgeous all year (all be it, a tad bit too dry)- Now, we are noticing a slight change. Tomorrow, with the cloud cover, we aren't even expected to get into the 80's! Is the summer REALLY over? Will things start to cool off now? Is it going to be noticably Fall? ... We are hopeful and amazed.. coming from FL, the seasons were almost non existent for me... very little change there. We couldn't get over the color change of the leaves here last fall... and then the little snowfall!!! I love this... just wondering if the summer was over for the most part? Thank you.

Oh yes, for those of you who were corresponding with me about the RATTLESNAKES... we've had two more up on the porch and one by the pool! Talk about YIKES!!! I still love Texas!

The old saying..."If you don't like the weather (in TX), just wait a few minutes, and it'll change!"

I'm also REALLY enjoying the cool weather. This August set a record for most moisture, 5.25-5.50 inches in one month.

Unless this year is unusual, I would expect it to get hot again before the end of October. The records for September have gone as high as 106.

I HOPE that does NOT happen this year, and there is nobody that wants summer and heat over more than I....LOL!!!

Be careful.....snakes are just a part of rural life!

Thank you. What area are you from? Texas is so big, it's not very accurate to compare it's weather unless we are in the same vicinity you know? I haven't seen anything close to 106... ever.Yes, I am totally freaked out by the snakes! The country has won my heart though, and I think I would not like to live in athe city again!- snakes or not-

Default Rattle Snakes

Best bet is two have a dog that can warn you. Also, have a .22 pistol/rifle to shoot the critter.

Here is a web site with tips on how to get rid of snakes and other critters:

We are more or less.....I'm 150 miles west of you in Midland, and the climates are similar. I grew up in a small town (Ozona)...so I've been in this type of weather my entire life.

I'm glad you're enjoying living outside of Abilene. It's a nice city, with most of the amenities!

On those snakes.....rumor has it that snake oil is good for what ails ya....<VBEG>

Thanks to both of you. It's 68 degrees out (noon on Sunday), foggy, and dreamy. Cathy, It seems odd to me that you have experienced 106... your about two hours west? Sorry, I'm not looking at a map. I really would not like that. I hope it doesn't happen here. We haven't gotten above 101... and that was only one hot week this summer. Actually, without humidity... that was tolerable. I'm thrilled that it is in the 60's today! In FL, that's winter weather (if their lucky). I hope it doesn't get to 100 again! I'm definitely ready for the cold!

A little over.....you know I-20? I'm right off of it just like you are....but farther west. The high this season so far for Midland has been 108. The 106 is the record high for September so far (in years past, I mean).

It's now 63 at 2:10pm...with a light drizzle.

August was a record rainfall for us...5.92 inches--last record was 5.50 in 1934. Nobody is complaining, LOL!!! It's so NICE to have it so much cooler!!!!! I am also very ready for cold. I want a very early fall...and a very cold, hard winter.

Fat chance, but one can hope...LOL!!!!

You never know. I keep reading about the south Texas snow a couple of years ago! In TX, it seems more possible than FL! We almost always had hot or "close to" winters. Texas is nice and dry. It seems we feel similar about weather wants. Texas has been good so far. I look at my extended family's weather (in FL) almost every day and even though temps are often lower, the FEELS LIKE is MUCH higher due to the unbearable humidity. Do you know what I mean? TX might register higher temps sometimes, but when they do , the dryness keeps our "FEELS LIKE" temp much lower than FL. From what I hear, sometimes this area will get a ood snow, other winters, not so cold. I hpe we freeze and snow and ANYTHING WHITE! Nice chatting with you.

The weather is screwy this year. West Texas has had a lot of rain, but here in Fort Worth-Dallas, we've had a very dry summer with water restrictions, and 43 days at or above 100 degrees (average 16). It has finally cooled off, and it's pleasant, but it's way too early to say that it won't get hot again. Excuse me while I go do a rain dance.
