Default Relocating to midland for job in Big springs

Hi

I will be relocating to Midland, TX from Houston and am looking at a position in Big Springs. The position will be at Scenic Mountain Med Ctr and I would be driving either in early am or 7-8 pm. I would like to know how is the traffic ( if there is any at all)/drive to Big Springs. Im also looking at positions in Midland/Odessa but keeping my options open. Thanks for any advice!

No traffic, but that is a LONG way to drive back and forth every day. Gas is about $3.50 a gallon, and you'll also have to worry about hitting deer on the road, too.

You're looking at a 40 mile one way drive from Midland to Big Springs...about 60 miles from Odessa to Big Springs. The drive is all interstate and relatively painless compared to say something like Houston or Dallas. The rush hour in Midland is short time wise and takes about 15 minutes to cross one end to the other. Now the interstate can get a little crowded around certain areas but it's generally people coming from outter areas towards Midland (except in between Midland/Odessa). Anyhow, a lot of people drive back and forth between Midland, Odessa, Stanton, and Big Spring. I would personally live in Midland, more things to do out of all the options.

Wow...I didnt event think about deer. Im originally from Atlanta, GA so Ive had several incidents with bambi! The job will pay very very well compared to the hospitals in Midland/Odessa so that is why I am considering the drive. I was told its about 45 minutes and since Im from Atl that's a pretty reasonable commute to me. Thanks for the heads up!

My fiance lives in Midland so I will definitely stay there...Ive been reading several negative things about Big Springs..i.e crime so would not reside there. Ive visited Midland a couple times and I think that its not that bad as long as you have someone there with you. Im actually looking forward to moving there.

I haul diesel via tanker truck and Deer generally isn't an issue between Odessa and Big Springs on the interstate. Now you do have to watch out on the smaller county roads through out West Texas during the early morning hours and night time.

I'm not sure about crime rates but it's not high enough to worry about like say East LA. The reason I would stay in Midland is because there is more to do and it's kept clean.

Edited: we're headed back to Texas from vacation and probably want be able answer anything else until late tonight.

40 mile commute, nearly all on interstate. No biggie, I make a 35 mile commute daily myself, mostly on interstate, just way up north from Midland...

If you have a decently efficient car, it won't be a big deal, other than piling miles on real quick.

Had family in Midland for years, and I think it is still a nice place.

No, a 40-mile commute on that interstate isn't a biggie, but it sure would get old FAST.

I even got sick of going between Midland and Odessa every day, LOL!! I had to be at work at 7am......*yawn*
