Like seriously, why are you guys so anxious to bulldoze something that is not even in your city????
That's how it goes. But I'd be shocked if either the Astrodome or Cotton Bowl were demo'ed.

Yeah, I don't get that either. I'm sure there are literally hundreds of old "eyesores" in Detroit that need to be plowed out of existence much more desperately than the Astrodome or Cotton Bowl for their "non-useability", but I have no stake in it so I'm not on the Detroit forums calling for their destruction. In fact... unless you live in direct viewing distance from the dome, then I really don't understand why you would care about it needing to be torn down.

Keep the Cotton Bowl, it being a monument to Texas athletics. It was the first place I had ever seen the \m/ hook'em, sometime in the mid 50's. My dad and his buds took their boys to NYr's Cotton Bowl games back then. I"ve taken myself a few times since. And I watched on TV in '64 as Texas beat Navy and Roger Staubach in that stadium. Any former Southwest Conference team has history in that stadium and a dream of many Texas athletes. Just coat it in gold leaf and let it sit.

As famed and historic as the Astrodome may be, it's history will always be dominated by Bud Adams and the bitterness of a failed team, as well as a monument to the Hoffheinz influence in Houston and Harris County politics. Let Harris County determine its fate.

Oops. That was a mistake on my part. But I do like bulldozering!

Umm... the dome was built for the Astros. Hence the name Astro-dome. Yes, the Oilers played there, but they weren't the dominating factor in the dome's history. I will give you the monument to Hofheinz thing though.

I wouldn't necessarily call the Oilers a "failed team" either. They were finally sold off by a horrible owner who had been trying to sell them off for many years. Maybe they weren't the big Superbowl darlings that the Cowboys are, but they still had a pretty good run all things considered, and were not hated in their hometown. Bud Adams on the other hand was very much HATED by most Houstonians.

its funny that you say it will ALWAYS be a dominating factor in history when me, and people my age don't know what the heck you are talking about.

Maybe the older generations will remember it as that, but thank God, they won't be around for ever

When they are gone the future generations will be proud that Houston was home to an engineering marvel, a stadium ahead of its time

Nope. Not this older guy. The Hofheinz thing is accurate, but the rest of what he said was pure revisionism.
