I'm currently residing in the McAllen area but may be considering a move to the Odessa-Midland area for work.

I have been in the McAllen area for the past 4 years but have not been to Odessa-Midland since like about 92 so I really don't remember much.

Can anybody tell me about the Odessa-Midland area and how it compares to the McAllen-Rio Grande Valley area?

I like McAllen but can't stand the humidity. I'm originally from El Paso so I'm used to the dry heat of west Texas.

Climate wise, Midland/Odessa feels about like El Paso...mayber a lot more dry and the landscape is flat. Now since I've never been to McAllen, I can't really compare the two/three. I can however tell you what I know about Midland/Odessa. Midland is basically white collar while Odessa is Blue collar. Midland seems to be a better choice for raising children. As you probably know, the area is almost all oilfield when it comes to jobs and has faired considerably better than much of the country during this recession. Midland has a fair amount of wealthy people compared to other cities it's size due to the oilfield. The area is mostly conservative and Christian.

It's more Anglo than McAllen, and it smells of oil (or, money ).
