Default The Weimar Republic in Texas

Photos from Weimar, Texas, about 80 miles West of Houston off of I-10.

The whole time I was taking pictures in this little town, people were staring at me and one lady walked out of her shop and asked what the hell I was doing. So I took my pics quickly and got the hell out of Dodge.

Not one of the Painted Churches, but it was a nice church none the less:

Adios

These are very nice photos. I saw some of your others as well. My husband and I did a tour of the painted churches a couple years ago on a motorcycle ride.

My guess is that lady may have been a little sensitive about all the drug trash they get coming out of Houston. I know I've approached strangers on my street and asked what their business was on the street...not that they have to tell me, but if they are up to no good they usually move on knowing someone is watching them. And experience has shown me that it doesn't matter how nicely they are dressed or how expensive their vehicle is. It's sad that it's come down to this in this country.

My goodness. The residents of Weimar act like they've never seen a sight-seer before......
By the way, fantastic pictures. Maybe you should get double prints and send one set to the nosy lady.

the people that usually ask what you are doing are the ones that usually are doing something suspicious

I see there are still some old German names there. That Catholic church is perhaps South German and not so much Hispanic? Go back and tell them you are from an old German family or looking into German heritage in Texas. Say nice things about German food--especially sauerkraut and sausage. Ask if they have any Ger-Mex food. Say, I love bratwrust with some chili pepper seasoning! I bet they embrace you and get a bit more friendly.

Hey, I like your sense of humor. Of course, there are alot of Turkish people who have settled in Germany. In these time of terrorism it is possible that someone thought you might be from the Middle East and scoping the little town out. Guess if I were you I would ask permission to take photos in such a little town. I know that when I took some photos of a small Louisiana town I had lots of stares, and later thought that I should have asked permission of the merchants and store owners. If you go back, be sure and introduce yourself to the priests that run that church. Once you are in with them I think you would have the run of the place. Anyways, nice to get a response from you. And you do have an artistic flair for photography.

I do like your pictures. I notice this seemed like a busy little town, what with all the pickemup trucks, unlike the one town you sent pictures in and it made you wonder....where are all the people? Thanks once again.

once again, you amaze me with your ability to capture the essence of Texas towns with your lens..........but i am curious, what kind of work do you do that allows you to travel so much within Texas? whatever it is, you're about almost as lucky as Bob Phillips!
