Mmmmm, Lowake (pronounced low ay key)!!! I went to college at ASU and we would hit Lowake a couple of times a semester. The waitresses have big hair and call you "hun", as in, "What'll ya have, hun?"

Sadly, I have not been there since the early 90's. I get my steak fix on my grill now.

Um, just to avoid hijacking this thread, the best quality of life in TX for a 30-ish professional would probably be San Angelo. I'd put San Antonio a close second.

I guess I need to get out there again since I haven't been to Lowake Steak House since I was a kid. There are just plenty of good places to get steak in town I haven't gone to the trouble..

Trouble!?!? Shady, slap yourself upside the head and take that remark back. The drive to and from Lowake is to allow for conversation and digestion, respectively.

...And obviously millions of people are willing to put up with these big-city issues in order to have access to big-city amenities and other positives that aren't available elsewhere in the region... so why even mention it unless the person specifies they don't want a big city...

Re: Lowake Inn. Order the T bone or the Porterhouse. They use garlic
and the big plates are HOT. Ask for a doggie bag. My relatives live and work
around there and I grew up in San Angelo. Meat has changed everywhere.
You are more likely to get grass fed local beef there. They all do finish in
feed lots though, a miserable and deplorable practice. My father was a rancher in Sonora. We kept beef on grass over one year. Now they are
barely able to graze before being shipped off. Local people keep a steer
on grass for themselves.

The quality of life is most definitely the highest in Houston and DFW. There is nothing wrong with Austin, but it is just not as high as the other metros. I lived in SA for the last 4 years, and It did not meet standards. It is more like a little town with lots and lots of people than a big city with big city amenities.

Check out the top 50 busiest airports in america and you will get a good comparison. The secondary airports in Houston and Dallas get more play than the international airport in SA or Austin.

All 4 has horrible traffic. Houston and Dallas will have the highest raw numbers, I35 in Austin has the highest in percentage, and SA is bad because they need bigger infrastructure.

In terms of young professionals/ upward mobile, I would go with Houston or DFW.

LOL, everyone knows I don't like SA, but in all honesty the city doesn't math its size. I found it extremely backwards. Trust me it is much different living there than visiting.

I absolutely loved visiting the Riverwalk before I lived there. Loved going to the theme parks (who doesn't) But when you move to a city you settle down to business and rarely do the tourist stuff. San Antonio seemed stagnant to me in everything but the population. The Humidity there is also very close to that of Houston.

Default Thinking of moving to Austin area

I have been thinking of moving to the Austin area, maybe even DFW. I currantly live in Northern Ca. I work in the new home construction field. I am the Director of Customer Care/Quality Control and would like to find a job doing the same thing of maybe getting into the Energy Industry. What would be a good area for me to move too?

That would be Houston!

That would be Houston or Dallas. (They have gigantic housing markets compared to Austin and San Antonio)
