It's a very small town, but home of Sul Ross University. It's quite a bit closer to El Paso or Midland/Odessa, TX.

You might want to check with their Chamber of Commerce regarding business opportunities.

I don't know about the employment scene, but I really love that area. The climate and scenery are great! I imagine you'd be competing with college kids for jobs, with low wages.

Alpine?

The scenery is nice; I have a friend who has a nice "get-away" house there. There's not much excitement, though. Some people need excitement, others shun it. I live in Odessa, but frequently drive to Alpine to do jobs. Since Alpine is out in the middle of nowhere, service companies have to drive in from other towns, so be prepared to shell out some bucks on service calls.
