Why are Houston posters insecure about Dallas? (Austin, Greenville: credit, neighborhood)

I ask myself that same question. But when something negative is said about EVERY single development and project that Dallas does; it comes off as being envious of something. It becomes annoying and gives dallasites a reason to burst some bubbles that houstonians are living and thinking in.
I don't know, I enjoy Dallas. They may have more than their fair share of snobby, pretentious, 30k millionaires but that's part of the personality. Dallas wouldn't be Dallas if it wasn't a douchebag sanctuary.
I think we in Houston could learn a thing or two from Dallas- mostly about taking some pride in our city's appearance. I don't mean people dressing up to sit in a McDonalds; I mean cleaning sh*t up to make the neighborhoods and shopping/strip mall type areas look cleaner.
Or they got banned (Mister Nifty). I just think there are more Houston posters on here than Dallas posters, too.
I didn't realize Mister Nifty was a Dallas booster, as I ignored him pretty quickly. He was insane. I do agree that there are more Houston posters in general, so that definately explains why there are more prominent Houston boosters.

Because the developments suck. The bridge is ugly, Victory Park was a failure, the DART is a failure and will continue to be a failure, etc. I've learned my lesson about complimenting Dallas, because the posters become arrogant and don't appreciate positive feedback. No one is jealous of Dallas and I don't know who thinks Dallas is the trendy and hip area of Texas; that would be Austin.
Just simply reading over this thread and looking at how the Dallas people act will give insight into why Houstonians act this way toward them. Dallasboi can never make a point without throwing out childish and lame insults. I'm neither native Houstonian or Dallasite; I actually like them both the same [I really do]. I just happen to live in Houston; so of course I will defend it more!

I think a lot of what Dallasites' perceived notion of Houston City-Data Booster's insecurity related back to what Cinnamon Delight said. It is less about jealousy for Dallas or what Dallas actually contains, but more about insecurity about Houston's place on the national stage.
I again reiterate that this insecurity hardly comes from the majority of Houston posters, just the few, overt Houston boosters.
(And, as a side note, I will also say that from what I have seen, Dallas boosters on this site boost less out of insecurity, and more out of sheer immaturity. But again, it's a big site, so I could just be missing some of it.)
Dallas is viewed as being a plastic, superficial, racist, intellectual wasteland by people around the country, but it's clean and "glamourous," so Houstonians are more than happy to pile it on them because the heat is off of them for a moment.
Think about how the homely, insecure plump girl with good grades but lacked social graces and dressed plainly was always snarking and complaining about the pretty, dumb cheerleader who wore all the best clothes (but not much going on in the brains department) and got all the attention and love in high school in order to feel better about themselves. That's the Houston-Dallas rivalry in a nutshell. It's a part of the intrastate rivalry because many Texans are an argumentative bunch who don't like for others to have the last word.
As to the first paragraph, living outside of Texas for most of my life, thats not how people I knew viewed Dallas. Most people Ive ever known from outside of Texas view Dallas as cowboy, country, and western even through, love it or hate it, thats not Dallas.
People from inside Texas tend to view Dallas as plastic, fake, and superficial.
As to the racist part, the only people from Texas Ive ever heard call Dallas racist were from Houston. Ive never heard anyone call Dallas racist that was from anywhere else in Texas. As to the rest of the country, Texas as a whole is viewed as racist. They dont descriminate.
As to the second paragraph, I actually think its spot on and Ive made that comparrison before too. Dallas was the beautiful cheerleader with not a whole lot of personality, but got all the attention from the guys. Houston was the plain girl with a heart of gold that the guys passed up.
I actually really like both places. I feel like Dallas is evolving and for the better as time goes on. Its diversifying really fast and those traits that have been ever present in Dallas (like plastic and superficial) are slowly dying out. I guess (for better or worse) we can thank the wild swing in the demographics of the city of Dallas for that. Dallas is known the plastic and the fake or the country and western, but in reality most of Dallas looks like a carbon copy of Juarez. The last part holds true for Houston too.

I can understand criticism of the bridge and Victory Park, but what's wrong with DART? Almost everyone in my office uses it. Please elaborate.
I actually never really knew there was a rivalry between the two cities until I came to this message board either. But I do find these "Dallas is the Marcia and Houston is the Jan. Poor, poor, Houston" analogies quite funny.

The main criticism of DART rail (which is what I assume is in question) is that while the system itself is fairly extensive for new light rail in a mostly car oriented metro, the ridership numbers continue to be lacking. This is due to a number of reasons, like the fact that the light rail is actually a hybrid of traditional light rail and commuter rail.
The hope is that DART (once it can settle some and refills its coffers for a bit) builds the second Downtown route to ease congestion, and developers, develop near the rail lines. This would potentially eliminate the ridership issues. Of course, its possible that none of this materializes and DART rail continues to underperform.
I wouldn't say DART is a failure at this point, just underwhelming for its size. And I certainly wouldn't say its going to continue to be a failure in the future. The future is a long time.
As for the rivalry only existing on this site: quite right. As others have said, most Dallasites and Houstonians, in real life, don't really give a hoot what the other city is doing. They're worried about their own stuff, and how to make their own neighborhoods and cities into better places. But the internet breeds weirdos, so hey, we get threads like Dallas v. Houston Smackdown, with stupid people getting their stupid jabs against other stupid people. It can be exasperating.
