Perry Raises More Than $17 Million for Presidential Bid - Businessweek
Perry is collecting money faster than a bird dog gets burs in the hunting field...
what happens if he fails to actually win the nomination or withdraws on the road to the nomination?
At what point does he get the matching Federal funds?
does he get to keep anything unspent if he withdraws at some point?
Under what conditions is he required to pay tax on the money?

Can he keep any unspent presidential funds and transfer to governor campaign if he withdraws or loses the nomination bid later?

You could ask these questions about any other candidate as well--
I just don't like Perry at all...

It'll get spent on guns, pork rinds, country clubs, and promoting misinformation

Who knows, go ask Hilary Clinton, Al Gore, or John Kerry what they did with their left over cash.

Hmmm... You only mention Democrats. Interesting. Hillary Didn't have left over cash. Her campaign was in debt.

Rick Perry can't buy a boat, but there are not a lot of limits on what he can use leftover monies for. I would imagine he will hold it for the next gubenatorial race, or just give it to the RNC to finance other republican candidates. He is not obligated to use donations solely for running for president, even if that is what he was doing when he asked for them.

That's a shaky thing, some rulings limit the use of campaign funds to be used to run for the office originally stated, others give more leeway.

Some candidates will refund the donations on a pro rated basis while others will transfer it to another candidate's fund.

Campaign finance laws are incredibly complicated and you can get a technical violation without even realizing it. Some states require the submission of all the campaign funding disclosures even if the items on that page don't apply.

Some of these violations can result in jail time. In MD failing to close a campaign account using the proper chain of actions can get you a $25K fine and a year in jail. All for a $500 amont in the account.

...yeah.. That's why I included a link so that the OP could easily go find the information she was seeking, including information specific to Texas, not Maryland.

Hum..the OP only mentioned Republicans...interesting indeed...

Anyhow, my reply was to give the OP examples of people who have ran for office before Perry and what happened to their cash. As you pointed out, one of my examples actually ended up in debt after her run for Presidency.

Yes, you certainly can. So what's the point, other than your dislike of Perry which everyone is already aware of? To be fair about it, you would need to do some homework on the numerous other candiates who ran, but didn't get elected, etc. and see what they did with their donations. Just saying, fair is fair.
