I am a native of Texas. I do not have a problem with people moving here as long as I don't have to support them. I don't want to support native Texans that don't feel they have to work so why would I support someone else.

As a native Texan and a transplant in Oklahoma, I can see it from both sides. I lived in Midland back in the early 80's so I know all about what cathy4017 was talking about. All these people came from places like NY, Boston an Chicago, then complained loudly about how it wasn't like home. It got really old, really quick. There were even bumper stickers on cars that said "Don't like Texas? Take I-20 East..." Most of them finally did just that. There were also lots of really nice people that came, assimilated in to the Texas life and are still there. No one bashed them. We still have friend living in that area that were originally from somewhere else. Rather than griping about what it wasn't, they embraced what it was.

Living in Houston, there were people from all over. I never really heard much griping or bashing there.

When I moved to Oklahoma I remembered all those people that came to Midland and tried not to do what they had done. I have tried to be respectful and remember I'm in their home now. Sometimes Texas gets a bad rap here, but for the most part people here have been warm and welcoming to me. I've only had one incident with someone bad mouthing Texas, not knowing I was a Texan (it's not like I wear an identifying sign or something). Unfortunately for that individual, he was running a business that I was shopping in. I told him if that's how he felt about us, I would take my money elsewhere. The look of shock on his face was priceless.

Even this week, after living here for 5 years I had a couple of my neighbors (both native Okies) ask me what I thought about living here. I think they were shocked when I said I liked just fine and thought it was really quite nice, which is all true. I wasn't going to tell them that no how nice it is, I still missed living in Texas, that it would always be "home". They don't need to hear that. It serves no constructive purpose.

This sums it up pretty well, I think.

I'd have to say, the people on this forum that are judgmental about transplants tend to be judgmental about the transplants that are judgmental about Texas first (and those folks, of course, who are judgmental about Texas without ever having been here). The others are just fine.

Yep, thats been my experience living here in Texas. I moved here from California and I love it here. Texas is my home now and will be till the day I draw my last breath. And I really identify with Texas living. I have family that live here as well and they all feel the same way and all of us have been treated as honorary Texans by the natives here. And if I heard somebody whining and complaining about Texas I would tell them to go back where they come from if its so much better there.

Concerning transplants or even natives, for that matter....as long as they are paying taxes and not committing any heinous crimes...who gives a rat's arse! Seems like the joke would be on them, for living somewhere, they detest so much. I try not to let others emotions(especially something as subjective as living preferences), seep into my psyche, and ruin my day.

Texans are hostile and judgmental towards transplants that are whiny and complain like bratty little children. Fortunately they are in the minority. Other than that, you will find Texas to be the most warm and welcoming state in the union. People will go out of their way to accommodate you, and that "how are you" is more often a sincere question than just a greeting.

Oh California isn't all that dreadful...mostly their government. I've actually met a lot of cool California people in my time, both while visiting California and else where like Texas. Anyhow, we look forward to having you.

Are you from the Philly-NJ-NY-Boston corridor? Many people in much of the country don't enjoy listening to children yap all day long so others notice them.
