Smile why im leaving Denton

I grew up in Denton TX all my life im 26 now and im leaving forever and never coming back. the reason why is because it a very difficult place to meet people. its not that people here are mean and rude but its seems that most of the people other than the college student just work the same old low pay job forever and don't think there is a better life then here also it seem that. there are alot of loser here you know people that think getting fights and going to jail is cool also most of the young girls here seem to get married young. I gave up on this town because I can't find a single girls here. also there are alot of people that judge me because i live with my parents and think im lazy. that's why im leaving. Im never going to like this town forever and ever. Im moveing to philadelphia to start my new life so all I can say is so long Denton

sounds like any other person who can't make it where they're from. hoping that if you go somewhere else you'll be less of a loser.

So I just live down the road from Philadelphia and of course there's more opportunity in a city like that (although you could just as well move to Dallas); also a lot more crime. Philly's a nice city -- in a way: I have a love-hate relationship with the place. I don't think the complaint about Denton is unique: in smaller cities a lot of the people who never leave don't have much ambition and stay confined to economically limited jobs, unless perhaps they themselves are part of the local community power structure or are heirs to an established family business.

Not sure what the point of this thread is exactly, though. The OP would probably get more out of posting on the Philadelphia sub-forum of the PA forum at this point.

I guess I do wonder why Philly specifically. It doesn't strike me as the likeliest place to move to from Texas.

I've known a few folks who have moved to Philadelphia. They're from Houston, though.

With all due respect, and maybe you're just feeling emotional right now, but isnt this a bit of an over reaction??? Maybe Denton wasnt working for you, why not try uptown dallas? or Fort Worth, or since you love music, why not Austin? To up sticks and move 3000 miles away just seems...a bit much...but to each his/her own.
