Default $15-$16 per hour hauling water vs $20-$25 in North Dakota

Hello! I have a job offer from Key Energy hauling water to well sites. One is in North Dakota paying $21.50 dayshift and $23.50 nights. Snyder and Stanton Texas paying $15 days $16.50 nights. With this in mind, which is the better deal? I know the $5 to$6 difference in pay should be a no brainer, but the winters there are very cold and they offer housing in North Dakota, but only for me[My spouse will be coming along] and other than the company housing, North Dakota has little available and what is available is insane $1800 plus for a 1 bedroom. My thinking is, although the pay itself in North Dakota is better, I think the dollar may go a little further in Texas. They also offer a relocation package for workers moving to Texas as well. Anyone know of rentals in the Snyder or Stanton area or nearby? Thanks for all replies!

Have you looked into the Eagle Ford boom in South Texas?
I know several people with a CDL that have gone down there and are making over $20/hr....
Don't know much about truck driving, but I've seen lots of ads for Class A CDL drivers hauling hazmat starting around +60k/year with benefits.

If you've ever done any expat work, that's about what moving to North Dakota would be like.

The Eagleford is probably saturated as far as OTR is concerned, but if you're willing to pick up a hammer then the hourly rate will probably be better and there will be a lot more hours available as an oilfield driver with one of the service companies. YMMV, but that's usually a decent gig if you can get it and can deal with really hard work.

I've only been to Snyder once, but I would be extremely surprised if the nicest apartment in town were more than $500/month.

I can't imagine driving a truck day in and day out during the winters in the Dakotas. Any water will be in the form of ice, most likely.

I saw a thing on TV about the oil boom in the Dakotas--they said people were living in "man-camps" & that there was literally no housing for families. It's going to be 80 today here--wonder what the high temp will be up there? JMHO

Ive got a job offer in North Dakota hauling sand in a pneumatic tanker, but only starts out at $19 per hour with $2 per hour raises at 6 and 12 months in an area where inexpensive housing is available for my family. They do provide housing, but only for me. I have a potential job offer with Key Energy in snyder or stanton Texas hauling water at $15 per hour with the same housing situation. I live in Tennessee now, but go through Texas a lot and really like it out there. Key does offer a $3k to 5k relocation assistance. Does anyone know of any other companies to look into? The good, the bad and the ugly? Thanks to all.

Rent a mobile home and take it with you.

Teach yourself welding and make $80 and hour when you get there.
