Default Need Info for Amarillo

I may be relocating to Amarillo and was hoping some of you nice folks could tell me about the city and area?

Thanks,
David

After just reading a few other threads I wanted to add that the reason I am going to Amarillo is to be near the VA hospital there. I am a plumber so finding work hopefully will not be too big an issue.

You could not have picked a better town. The economy is very strong and unemployment is very low (about 3%). You will have no problem to find a job as a plumer.

I grew up near Amarillo. Good people, lots of businesses, stores, restaurants.

Negatives are the cold winters and the constant wind, but you really do get used to them. The thing that bothered me the most was the thunderstorms and tornadoes, although I realize that Amarillo has not been hit in many years. There are sections of town that flood easily--mostly around Wolflin Village and southwest of there. Watch out for these easily flooded areas when picking a place to live. I can't remember the name of the lake west of Wolflin Village, but that is a very flood prone area.

All in all, I think you will like Amarillo. I considered moving there when I relocated back to Texas from Ohio. It was on my short list.
