I've always thought that that Rice University was a selective (& small) school that often catered to Science & Math brainiacs. Not a liberal arts school like Emory (btw, I would think that Trinity would be more like an Emory).

Those who can't get into Cal Tech or MIT would likely have Rice on their radar. US News comments:

Rice I would say is more like a Harvey Mudd or Pomona College. It's not a tech school but just has really good engineering and sciences department.

Pomona and HM are small liberal arts colleges. They are both solid, but that's an entirely different animal than a national research university, which is what Rice is.

This is not an infallible evaluation by any means, but it is among the most cited and respected:

If that's the case then how is not Emory or Vandy a peer school? MIT and Cal Tech sure aren't.

Both MIT and Cal Tech are focused on Math, sciences, and engineering. Emory, Vandy, and Rice are more broadly focused. All of the above are national research universities.

Harvey Mudd and Pomona are small liberal arts colleges, which is a different type of institution. It doesn't make much sense to compare SMLCs to National Universities.

I know. But I was told Vandy is higher than Rice and that Emory was more liberal arts than Rice. I compared all three schools are peers. They're usually are similarly ranked.

Due to your mistakes, I cannot understand you. Ironic, I guess, in a thread about getting a good education so that you can articulate your thoughts clearly.

Another important lesson central to a liberal arts education? Learning to inform yourself with credible, authoritative sources, not simply collecting opinions from the uninformed masses (i.e. learning to discern / use critical reasoning; an important lesson given the unprecedented access to mass information that today's individuals face).

More evidence that UT>Rice

UT is the 30th best uni in the world, Rice is 89th.

Ok let me break it down. I said that Rice and Emory are peers. Another poster said that Emory is much more liberal arts centered than Rice, which is more known as a engineering/science school. I said ok, well then its more like a harvey mudd and pomona college combo. Again those are two small liberal arts schools not national universities. So again I ask how are Rice and Emory not peer schools?

Huh? Does anyone actually believe that? I assume you are a UT grad/and or have no stock in Rice.
