Shh! There is no drought. We got a whole inch of rain here yesterday to prove it... Well, we DID have it anyway.

If that many trees are really dead then brace yourselves for far more catastrophic fires next year. All that dead wood in the forests is going to become the world's largest tinderbox by July.

Speaking of rain, anyone know what our annual rain fall is so far?

Seems like the more Rick Perry prays (to the God of fire?) the worse the drought gets in Texas

I lost two Chinese elms this summer and these trees could thrive on Mars. Two trees are a lot to lose since I have only about twenty trees on 20 acres here on the south plains. We have been getting some rain in the last two months but the little bit of snow we have gotten does nothing to wet things down. It usually evaporates before it melts.

Texas has way too many trees.

It used to be that most of the state did not have trees. Fire and drought killed them off and kept them in check. Except along creek beds they normally would not exist.

A number of studies have shown that Austin and San Antonio could triple their ground water recharge by bring back fire and reducing cedar and mesquite.
