I read that Trader Joe's is coming to Texas, but alas, not Austin. Anyone know why?

I heard TJ's management has said the reason they aren't coming is there haven't been enough threads about them possibly coming on Austin message boards yet.

Yeah, we need to work on that around here.

It's a matter of logistics. The supply chain from established market areas is long, so they're starting with several stores close together, in a larger market area.

It's good news for Austin in the long run. A little patience, and some letter writing should help this come to fruition.

Seriously, though... They might indeed be intimidated (or at least tread lightly) into the home turf of Whole Foods. One wrong move, and WF could decide to introduce a line of "pantry" style discount stores to compete directly with TJs, and crush them.

I think the Austin PR factory funded by the City Council is working on this as we speak.....

Maybe they can build it by the Formula 1 track, and build some high speed rail to get there. Maybe the chairs on the trains will be covered in confiscated plastic garbage bags.

Not even the same type of store concept really. WF does not compete with TJ's elsewhere where both co-exist (for example in the Seattle area where I now live). For one, TJ's is way less expensive and is a much smaller store.

It's about distribution/supply chain and this point IMO.

Might as well put the mega sports stadium for the Professional Team that we need so badly out there as well.
