Fellow Texans...?

*SIGHS*

I apologize.....and know now (as it usually the case!), I should have included a few other choices. In this case? Lego's (although I don't think that was a 60's or 70's thing...was it?)...and HOT-WHEELS!!!!!

Me and my little brother would set up the "dual track" and "race" them all day long. And, oh yeah, an "electric football set"!

My Lincoln Logs and Pick up Sticks were made of WOOD. The Tiddly winks I played with in around 1944 were almost certainly not plastic, either, which was an extremely rare material in those days. They were probably made from horn. Tiddly winks existed in 1888, a half a century before plastic was even dreamed of. The first toy I had that was made of plastic was probably about 1948.

Our Pickup Sticks were made of wood, too.....

I had to go look up Tiddly Winks....even with seeing the pictures, not familiar at all (1950s childhood)...nor Battling Tops.

The original Mr. Potato Head was fun, too.....

LEGOs were invented in the late 1940s, but they do seem to be more popular with us younger folks.

Lincoln Logs and Tinkertoys seem to be a "born before 1965" thing. We had them in elementary school classes, but I don't remember anyone playing with them at home. We preferred our more colorful, hazardous plastic toys.

LOL!! I"m serious! I have always heard the term Tiddly-Winks, but I have never had any idea what it was. I do NOT remember ever playing it.

LOL As I recall, Texas sis, it involved plastic (or wooden) round "chips"...and "you" would use one to "snap" on the edges of another to try and spring it up into the air and the object was to have it land in a container.

*laffin a bit*....I bet some of the other men on here will agree that it wasn't all that much different from the bar-room "drinking game" called "quarters"!

Right, old boys? Fess up! *grins*

Thanks for the interesting info, Nairobi!

I admit I originally though the "time frame" would be the opposite. That is, Lincoln logs and TinkerToys being the earliest and Lego's being the last of the group!

Oh, they are, Tex. Tinkertoy was invented in 1914 and then Lincoln Logs came along in 1916.

Lincoln Logs - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tinkertoy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

*As it turns out, LEGOs were invented in Denmark, and I couldn't find out exactly when they were introduced to the United States, but I'm guessing it was some time around the late 1960s, which is probably why they are considered a more "recent" phenomenon.

Thanks for the clarification, Nairobi!

I admit I read your earlier "time-frame post" -- as to when all came into existence -- wrong!

What you say makes perfectly good sense...as in "Legos" being the most recent!
