Most assets held in the usa are from home equity. Without the big real estate price bubble most states experienced, Texans didnt have the opportunity to sell a home at the peak and create cash assets to buy stock etc.

Low pay and low cost of living isnt a bad combintion. We need higher paying jobs for sure, but in this economy having any job is a blessing

If Texans paid attention to every partisan-hack study of how the State is so bad, we would have never "survived the Great Recession better than other states" as the article admits.

I think this article is presenting the opinion that we DIDN'T "survive" the Great Recession in better shape that some people in other states

Why should Rick Perry be so proud of being governor of state where obviously MOST of the people are not doing that well???
Just like Mitt Romney doen't think poor people really need a larger safety net...
he's got his and knows where to get more...

Why are so many people moving to Houston and Dallas which are the two top job adding cities in 2011? Could it be that despite liberal DC policies we are growing and adding jobs at a greater rate than those bastions of individual liberty like CA, NY, Ill? Those moving here want work, manufacturing jobs, yes libs even oil and gas jobs. Those jobs are here not Ca, nor ny etc

Obama takes credit for increased oil and gas production on his watch when his policies did the opposite. Rick Perry didnt do anything to stop Texas growth and that is what we want from a gov....for it to stand aside and let growth happen. Rick gets more credit for increased oil and gas production than O claims he deserves credit

Your post was both hard to read and off topic. This is not an illegal immigration thread. There are many of those already, no reason to try to bend this to your favorite subject sir. Illegal Immigration is a problem EVERYWHERE, including California that has just as many (if not more) illegal immigrants than Texas, but also enjoys both high wages and a HUGE cost of living. There is no coorelation between your "texas has lower pay b/c illegals done TOOK DYER JAWBS" and what the OP is talking about.

Once again, this is not an illegal alien thread. It has nothing to do with what the OP was discussing.
