It just depends on where you're looking on the fences. I'm a strong believer in fences. Out here, they keep out stray dogs (or keep in your own dogs) and they also keeps out deer and wild hogs (that last one I'm really afraid of). I think most yards in nearby San Antonio have at least a back yard fence, some have a front yard fence. We're still in drought here. We were in Exceptional Drought for a long time, then in Extreme Drought...and I think we're in Severe Drought now (yay!). La Nina continues...some say it'll end next May, but then again...they said it would end in June of 2011 and THAT didn't happen! So the drought is why lawns aren't emerald-green and some turf may have outright died.

I agree, just looked at many homes in Dallas area. I picked one in Plano with a smallish yard which was my preference. The fence in back of the home I bought is a high one so I have total back yard privacy from neighbors windowns. Definately see fences all over dfw and dont recall seeing any without one. Pittsburgh, where I lived didnt have fences in many isntances but the hills there are pretty steep. Stil seemed strange to not have a privacy fence.

OP gave us a red herring and I dont dont like fish
